At that time, you will begin to sing this song about the king of Babylon:


Then you will say to them, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will make everyone that lives in this land helpless, like a drunken man. I am talking about the kings that sit on David’s throne. I am also talking about the priests, the prophets, and all the people that live in Jerusalem.


So I will soon send for all the family groups of the north. {\cf2\super [202]} ” This message is from the Lord. “I will soon send for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. He is my servant. I will bring those people against the land of Judah and against the people of Judah. I will bring them against all the nations around you too. I will destroy all of those countries. I will make those lands like an empty desert forever. People will see those countries, and whistle at how badly they were destroyed.


Sword, strike the waters of Babylon.\par Those waters will be dried up.\par Babylon has many, many idols.\par Those idols show\par that the people of Babylon are foolish.\par So bad things will happen to those people.\par


“The noise in Jerusalem sounded like a crowd of people having a party. {\cf2\super [197]} Many people came to the party. People were already drinking as they came in from the desert. They gave bracelets and beautiful crowns to the women.


The head of the statue was made from pure gold. The chest and the arms of the statue were made from silver. The belly and upper part of the legs of the statue were made from bronze.


God has given you control and you rule over people and over the wild animals and over the birds. Wherever they live, God has made you ruler over them all. King Nebuchadnezzar, you are that head of gold on the statue. {\cf2\super [16]}


Then the second angel followed the first angel and said, “She is destroyed! The great city of Babylon is destroyed! She (Babylon) made all the nations drink the wine of her adultery {\cf2\super [101]} and of God’s anger.”


The rulers of the earth sinned sexually with her. The people of the earth became drunk from the wine of her sexual sin.”


The woman was dressed in purple and red. She was shining with the gold, jewels, and pearls she was wearing. She had a golden cup in her hand. This cup was filled with terrible (evil) things and the uncleanness of her sexual sin.


The light of a lamp will never\par shine in you again.\par The voices of a bridegroom {\cf2\super [140]} and bride\par will never be heard in you again.\par Your merchants {\cf2\super [141]} were the world’s\par great people.\par All the nations were tricked by your magic.\par


All the peoples of the earth have drunk\par the wine of her sexual sin\par and of \{God’s\} anger.\par The rulers of the earth sinned sexually\par with her,\par and the merchants {\cf2\super [130]} of the world\par grew rich from the great wealth\par of her luxury.”\par


His judgments are true and right.\par Our God has punished the prostitute. {\cf2\super [144]} \par She is the one who made the earth evil\par with her sexual sin.\par God has punished the prostitute\par to pay her for the blood (death)\par of his servants.”\par
