Babylon, you will be destroyed!\par Bless the man who gives you\par the punishment you should get.\par Bless the man who hurts you\par like you hurt us.\par


But their bows will break.\par Their swords will go into their own hearts.\par


The Lord can stop wars\par anywhere on earth.\par He can break the soldiers’ bows,\par shatter their spears.\par and burn their shields. {\cf2\super [283]} \par


In that place, God shattered the bows\par and arrows, shields, swords, and\par other weapons of war.\par \i (SELAH {\cf2\super [433]})\i0 \par


I have seen something very terrible\par that will happen.\par I see traitors {\cf2\super [205]} turning against you.\par I see people taking your wealth.\par


\{Those things will happen\} because the Lord has chosen a time for punishment. The Lord has chosen a year when people must pay for the wrong things they did to Zion. {\cf2\super [318]}


People are afraid and confused. Say to those people, “Be strong! Don’t be afraid!” Look, your God will come and punish your enemies. He will come and give you your reward. The Lord will save you.


The Lord is angry at his enemies.\par So the Lord will give them\par the punishment they deserve.\par The Lord is angry with his enemies.\par So the Lord will punish the people\par in all the faraway places.\par The Lord will give them\par the punishment they deserve.\par


The Lord All-Powerful says,\par “I will break Elam’s bow very soon.\par The bow is Elam’s strongest weapon.\par


The enemy will take all the wealth\par from the Chaldean people.\par Those soldiers will take all they want.”\par The Lord said these things.\par


Sword, kill the priests of Babylon.\par Those priests will be like foolish people.\par Sword, kill the soldiers of Babylon.\par Those soldiers will be full of terror.\par

Babylon’s soldiers have stopped fighting.\par They stay in their forts.\par Their strength is gone.\par They have become like scared women.\par Babylon’s houses are burning.\par The bars of her gates are broken.\par


Then heaven and earth and all that is in them\par will shout with joy about Babylon.\par They will shout because\par an army came from the north\par and fought against Babylon.”\par The Lord said these things.\par


Babylon might grow\par until she touches the sky.\par Babylon might make her forts strong.\par But I will send people\par to fight against that city.\par And those people will destroy her.”\par The Lord said these things.\par


Run away from Babylon.\par Run to save your lives!\par Don’t stay and be killed\par because of Babylon’s sins!\par It is time for the Lord to punish\par the people of Babylon\par for the bad things they did.\par Babylon will get the punishment\par that she should have.\par


Give them back what they deserve, Lord!\par Pay them back for what they have done!\par


But I will knock your bow from your left hand. I will knock your arrows from your right hand.


“At that time, the people living in the cities of Israel will go out to the fields. They will collect the enemy’s weapons and burn them. They will burn all the shields, bows and arrows, clubs and spears. They will use those weapons as firewood for seven years.


People with bows \{and arrows\} will not survive. Fast runners will not escape. People on horses will not escape alive. At that time, even very brave soldiers will run away. They will not take the time to put their clothes on.” The Lord said these things!


You have stolen things from many nations. So those people will take much from you. You have killed many people. You have destroyed lands and cities. You have killed all the people there.


I will punish them for the bad things they did. But I am saving that punishment for when they slip and do bad things. Their time of trouble is near. Their punishment will come quickly.’


God will do what is right. He will give trouble to those people who trouble you.


The animal and the ten horns (ten rulers) you saw will hate the prostitute. They will take everything she has and leave her naked. They will eat her body and burn her with fire.


Be happy because of this, O heaven!\par Be happy, God’s holy people {\cf2\super [134]} and apostles {\cf2\super [135]} and prophets {\cf2\super [136]} !\par God has punished her because of the things she did to you.’”\par


His judgments are true and right.\par Our God has punished the prostitute. {\cf2\super [144]} \par She is the one who made the earth evil\par with her sexual sin.\par God has punished the prostitute\par to pay her for the blood (death)\par of his servants.”\par


The bows of strong soldiers break! And weak people become strong!
