Solomon also finished building the rooms around the temple. Each story was 5 cubits [39] tall. The cedar beams in those rooms touched the temple.


The entrance to the bottom rooms was on the south side of the temple. Inside, there were stairs that went up to the second floor rooms and from there to the third floor rooms.


and the families of scribes [28] that lived at Jabez, Tirath, Shimeath, and Sucah. These scribes are the Kenite people that came from Hammath. Hammath was the founder [29] of Beth Recab.


The Levites {\cf2\super [253]} had the job of helping Aaron’s descendants {\cf2\super [254]} in the service of the Lord’s temple. {\cf2\super [255]} The Levites also cared for the temple yard and the side rooms in the temple. They had the job of making all holy things pure. It was their job to serve in God’s temple.


David had made plans for all parts of the temple. David gave those plans to Solomon. David gave him all the plans for the yard around the Lord’s temple, and for all the rooms around it. David gave him the plans for the temple storerooms and for the storerooms where they kept the holy things used in the temple.


There were four gatekeepers that were the leaders of all the gatekeepers. They were Levite {\cf2\super [95]} men. They had the job of caring for the rooms and treasures in God’s temple. {\cf2\super [96]}


The Levites that were singers and leaders of their families stayed in the rooms at the temple. {\cf2\super [101]} They did not have to do other work because they were responsible for the work in the temple day and night.


The gold nails weighed 1 1/4 pounds. {\cf2\super [36]} Solomon covered the upper rooms with gold.


Then Hezekiah commanded the priests to make storerooms ready in the Lord’s temple. {\cf2\super [386]} So this was done.


So guard these things carefully. You are responsible for them until you give them to the temple leaders in Jerusalem. You will give them to the leading Levites and the family leaders of Israel. They will weigh those things and put them in the rooms of the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem.


So I (Jeremiah) went to get Jaazaniah. {\cf2\super [291]} Jaazaniah was the son of a man named Jeremiah, {\cf2\super [292]} that was the son of a man named Habazziniah. And I got all of Jaazaniah’s brothers and sons. I got the whole family of the Recabites together.


Then I brought the Recabite family into the temple of the Lord. We went into the room called the room of the sons of Hanan. Hanan was the son of a man named Igdaliah. Hanan was a man of God. {\cf2\super [293]} The room was next to the room where the princes of Judah stay. It was over the room of Maaseiah son of Shallum. Maaseiah was the doorkeeper in the temple.


So, we Recabite people have obeyed everything our ancestor Jonadab commanded us. We never drink wine. And our wives, sons, and daughters never drink wine.


There were small windows {\cf2\super [326]} above all the guard rooms, the side walls, and the porch. The wide part of the windows faced into the gateway. There were carvings of palm trees on the walls that were on either side of the gateway.
