16 The Lord gave you a name.\par He called you,\par ‘A green olive tree,\par beautiful to look at.’\par But with a strong storm,\par the Lord will set that tree on fire,\par and its branches will be burned up.\par

That man is like a plant that has\par plenty of water and sunshine.\par Its branches spread all through the garden.\par


But I am like a green olive tree\par growing in God’s temple.\par I will trust God’s true love\par forever and ever.\par


Your “vine” was burned in the fire\par like dry dung.\par You were angry at it and destroyed it.\par


God, reach out to the son\par who stood by your right side.\par Reach out to the son you raised.\par


God, your enemies make plans against you,\par and they will soon attack.\par


The vines will become dry. And the branches will break off. Women will use those branches for firewood.


Judah, I planted you like a special vine.\par All of you were like good seed.\par How did you turn into a different vine that grows bad fruit?\par


‘You will get the punishment you deserve.\par I will start a fire in your forests.\par That fire will completely burn everything\par around you.’”\par


So the Lord says this: “I will show my anger against this place. I will punish people and animals. I will punish the trees in the field and the crops that grow in the ground. My anger will be like a hot fire—and no person will be able to stop it.”


His branches will grow,\par and he will be like a beautiful olive tree.\par He will be like the sweet smell\par from the cedar trees of Lebanon.\par


The ax is now ready to cut down the trees. {\cf2\super [40]} Every tree that does not make good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.


If a person does not continue in me, then he is like a branch that is thrown away. That branch dies. People pick up dead branches, throw them into the fire, and burn them.


You will have olive trees everywhere on your land. But you will not have any of the oil to use. Why? Because the olives will drop to the ground and rot.


These two witnesses are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth.
