All the people of the other nations are stupid and foolish.\par Their teachings come from worthless wooden statues.\par


Many shepherds (leaders) have ruined\par my field of grapes.\par Those shepherds have walked\par on the plants in my field.\par Those shepherds have made my beautiful field\par into an empty desert.\par


“The priests did not ask,\par ‘Where is the Lord?’\par The people that know the law\par did not want to know me.\par The leaders of the people of Israel\par turned against me.\par The prophets prophesied {\cf2\super [5]} in the name\par of the false god Baal. {\cf2\super [6]} \par They worshiped worthless idols.”\par


The Lord says,\par “Write this down about Jehoiachin:\par ‘He is a man that has no children anymore!\par Jehoiachin will not be successful\par in his lifetime.\par And none of his children\par will sit on the throne of David.\par None of his children\par will rule in Judah.’”\par


The enemy will steal their camels\par and take their large herds of cattle.\par The enemy will steal their large herds.\par Those people cut the corners of their beards. {\cf2\super [405]} \par Well, I will make them run away\par to the far corners of the earth.\par And I will bring terrible troubles to them\par from everywhere.”\par This message is from the Lord.\par


The prophets tell lies.\par The priests will not do\par what they were chosen to do. {\cf2\super [36]} \par And my people love it this way!\par But what will you people do\par when your punishment comes?”\par


“Israel is like a flock of sheep\par that were scattered all over the country.\par Israel is like sheep that were chased away\par by lions.\par The first lion to attack\par was the king of Assyria.\par The last lion to crush his bones\par was Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.\par


Those ‘wise people’ refused to listen\par to the Lord’s teachings.\par So they are not really wise people at all.\par Those ‘wise people’ were trapped.\par They became shocked and ashamed.\par


If a shepherd is with his sheep when they begin to wander away, then he will go searching for them. In the same way I will search for my sheep. I will save my sheep. I will bring them back from all the places where they were scattered on that dark and cloudy day.


The Lord says, “I am very angry at the shepherds (leaders). I made those leaders responsible for what happens to my sheep (people).” (The people of Judah are God’s flock. And the Lord All-Powerful really does take care of his flock. He cares for them like a soldier cares for his beautiful war horse.)


The Lord All-Powerful says, “Sword, hit the shepherd! Hit my friend! Hit the shepherd and the sheep will run away. And I will punish those little ones.
