God, remember, you made me like clay.\par Will you make into clay again?\par


If your children sinned against God,\par then he has punished them.\par They paid for their sins.\par


Know that the Lord is God.\par He made us.\par We are his people,\par We are his sheep.\par


Bad people have destroyed my people.\par And those bad people don’t know God.\par Bad people have plenty of food to eat. {\cf2\super [76]} \par And they don’t even worship the Lord.\par


{But if you destroy your people,} then the Egyptians can say, ‘The Lord planned to do bad things to his people. That is why he led them out of Egypt. He wanted to kill them in the mountains. He wanted to wipe them off the earth.’ So don’t be angry at your people. Please change your mind! Don’t destroy your people.


“You people will raise your arms to pray to me—but I will refuse to look at you. You people will say more and more prayers—but I will refuse to listen to you. Why? Because your hands are covered with blood.


But if any person comes to me for safety\par and wants to make peace with me,\par then let him come,\par and make peace with me.\par


“Look at these people! They are arguing with the One who made them. Look at them argue with me! They are like pieces of clay from a broken pot. A man uses soft, wet clay to make a pot. And the clay does not ask, ‘Man, what are you doing?’ Things that are made don’t have the power to question the one who makes them. \{People are like this clay.\}


I came home and found no one there.\par I called and called,\par but no one answered.\par Do you think I am not able to save you?\par I have the power to save you\par from all of your troubles.\par Look, if I command the sea to dry up,\par then it will become dry!\par The fish will die without water,\par and their bodies will rot.\par

These people did evil things,\par and it made me angry.\par So, I punished Israel.\par I turned away from him\par because I was angry.\par And Israel left me.\par He went wherever he wanted.\par


The Lord looked and was surprised\par that he could find no person\par to stand and speak for the people.\par So the Lord used his own power\par and his own goodness,\par and the Lord saved the people.\par


But your sins separate you from your God. The Lord sees your sins, and he turns away from you.


No person tells the truth about other people. People sue each other in court, and they depend on false arguments to win their cases. They tell lies about each other. They are full of trouble, and they give birth to evil.


Look! You are our father!\par Abraham doesn’t know us.\par Israel (Jacob) does not recognize us.\par Lord, you are our father!\par You are the One who has always saved us!\par


So, the Lord All-Powerful says:\par “A worker heats metal in a fire\par to test if it is pure.\par I will test the people of Judah like that.\par I have no other choice.\par My people have sinned.\par


Then let the pot stand empty\par on the coals.\par Let it become so hot that its stains {\cf2\super [204]} \par begin to glow.\par Those stains will be melted away.\par The rust will be destroyed.\par


I will go back to my place,\par until the people admit they are guilty,\par until they come looking for me.\par Yes, in their trouble they will try hard\par to find me.”\par


They never call to me from their hearts.\par Yes, they cry on their beds.\par And they cut themselves\par when they ask for grain and\par new wine.\par But \{in their hearts,\} they have turned away\par from me.\par


They are all like hot ovens.\par They destroyed their rulers.\par All of their kings fell.\par Not one of them called to me for help.”\par


The Lord All-Powerful said, “Children honor their father. Servants honor their masters. I am your Father, so why don’t you honor me? I am your Master, so why don’t you respect me? You priests don’t respect my name.”


We all have the same father (God). The same God made every one of us! So why do people cheat their brothers? Those people show that they don’t respect the Agreement. They don’t respect the Agreement that our ancestors made with God.
