When you lie down, you will not be afraid. When you rest, your sleep will be peaceful.


I will bring back the kind of judges you had in the beginning. Your counselors will be like the counselors you had long ago. Then you will be called ‘The Good and Faithful City.’”


\{God is\} good and does the things that are right. So he will rescue Zion {\cf2\super [14]} and the people that come back to him.


At that time, you will begin to sing this song about the king of Babylon:


Those people from Moab were forced\par to leave their homes.\par So let them live in your land.\par Hide them \{from their enemies\}.\par The looting will stop.\par The enemy will be defeated.\par The men that hurt other people\par will be gone from the land.\par


Then God will be a judge for the people of all nations. God will end the arguments for many people. Those people will stop using their weapons for fighting. They will make plows from their swords. And they will use their spears as tools for cutting plants. People will stop fighting against other people. People will never again train for war.


Open the gates\par and the good people will enter.\par Those people obey God’s good teachings.\par


That goodness will bring peace and safety forever.


People will say, ‘Goodness and power come only from the Lord.’”


“Those people hurt you.\par But I will force those people\par to eat their own bodies.\par Their own blood will be\par the wine that makes them drunk.\par Then every person will know that\par the Lord saved you.\par All people will know that\par the Powerful One of Jacob saved you.”\par


The Lord made you.\par With his power he made the earth!\par And with his power he spread the skies\par over the earth!\par But you forget him and his power.\par So you are always afraid of angry men\par that hurt you.\par Those men planned to destroy you.\par But where are they now?\par \{They are all gone\}!\par


Wake up! Wake up Zion! {\cf2\super [420]} \par Dress yourself!\par Put on your strength!\par Holy Jerusalem, stand up!\par People that have not agreed\par to follow God {\cf2\super [421]} \par will not enter you again.\par Those people are not pure and clean.\par


Don’t be afraid!\par You will not be disappointed.\par People will not say bad things against you.\par You will not be embarrassed.\par When you were young, you felt shame.\par But you will forget that shame now.\par You will not remember the shame that\par you felt when you lost your husband.\par


“There will never again be news of violence\par in your country.\par People will never again attack your country\par and steal from you.\par You will name your walls,\par ‘Salvation.’\par You will name your gates,\par ‘Praise.’\par


“All of your people will be good.\par Those people will get the earth forever.\par I made those people.\par They are the wonderful plant\par that I made with my own hands.\par


“The Lord makes me very, very happy.\par My whole self is happy in my God.\par The Lord put the clothes of salvation on me.\par These clothes are like the nice clothes\par a man wears at his wedding.\par The Lord put the coat of goodness on me.\par This coat is like the beautiful clothes\par a woman wears at her wedding.\par


“I love Zion,\par so I will continue to speak for her.\par I love Jerusalem,\par so I will not stop speaking.\par I will speak until goodness shines\par like a bright light.\par I will speak until salvation burns bright\par like a flame.\par


Why? Because you will take away the heavy burden. You will take away the heavy pole on the people’s backs. You will take away the rod that the enemy uses to punish your people. This will be like the time you defeated Midian. {\cf2\super [107]}


Power and peace will be in his kingdom. It will continue to grow for this king from David’s family. This king will use goodness and fair judgment to rule the kingdom forever and ever.


“So, Jacob {\cf2\super [237]} my servant, don’t be afraid!”\par This message is from the Lord.\par “Israel, don’t be afraid.\par I will save you from that faraway place.\par You are captives {\cf2\super [238]} in that faraway land,\par But I will save your descendants. {\cf2\super [239]} \par \{I will bring them back\} from that land.\par Jacob will have peace again.\par People will not bother Jacob.\par There will be no enemy to scare my people.\par


Jacob’s family will be\par like the family of Israel long ago.\par I will make Israel and Judah strong,\par and I will punish the people that hurt them.\par


The Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: “I will again do good things for the people of Judah. I will bring back the people who were taken away as prisoners. At that time, the people in the land of Judah and in its towns will once again use these words: ‘May the Lord bless you, good home and holy mountain!’ {\cf2\super [257]}


If you plant goodness, you will harvest true love. Plow your ground, and you will harvest with the Lord. He will come, and he will make goodness fall on you like rain!


The Lord says, “I have come back to Zion. I am living in Jerusalem. Jerusalem will be called FAITHFUL CITY. The Lord All-Powerful’s mountain will be called HOLY MOUNTAIN.”


I will not let enemy armies pass through it. I will not let them hurt my people any more. With my own eyes I saw how much my people suffered \{in the past\}.”


But God made a promise to us. And we are waiting for what he promised—a new sky and a new earth. That will be the place where goodness lives.
