The bad things that happened to us are our own fault. We have done evil things, and we have much guilt. But you, our God, have punished us much less than we should have been. We have done many terrible sins, and we should have been punished worse. And you have even let some of our people escape captivity.


Yes, we were slaves, but you would not let us be slaves forever. You were kind to us. You made the kings of Persia be kind to us. Your temple was ruined. But you gave us new life so we can build your temple again and fix it like new. God, you helped us build a wall to protect Judah and Jerusalem.


But God, you were right\par about everything that happens to us.\par You were right.\par And we were wrong.\par


The harvest is big in this land.\par But we sinned, so that harvest\par goes to the kings you put over us.\par Those kings control us and our cattle.\par They do anything they want.\par We are in a lot of trouble.\par


But look at the people.\par Other people have defeated them\par and have stolen things from them.\par All the young men are afraid.\par They are locked in the prisons.\par People have taken their money from them.\par And there is no person to save them.\par Other people took their money.\par And there was no person to say,\par “Give it back!”\par


The enemy shouts, and their shout is like a lion’s roar. It is loud like a young lion. The enemy growls and grabs the people it is fighting against. The people struggle and try to escape. But there is no person to save them.


For this reason, I will reward him among my people. He will have a share of all things with the people that are strong. \{I will do this for him\} because he gave his life for the people and died.


Then the Lord my Master said to me, “Son of man, {\cf2\super [291]} these bones are like the whole family of Israel. The people of Israel say, ‘Our bones have dried up, {\cf2\super [292]} our hope is gone. We have been completely destroyed!’


Then the Lord my Master said to me, “Son of man, {\cf2\super [287]} can these bones come to life?”


The Lord All-Powerful says,\par “I am against you, \{Nineveh\}!\par I will burn your chariots.\par I will kill your ‘young lions’ in battle.\par You will not hunt anyone on earth again.\par People will never again hear bad news\par from your messengers.”\par
