16 {The Lord also said,} “Go and gather together the elders (leaders) of the people and tell them, ‘YAHWEH, [23] the God of your ancestors, [24] has appeared to me. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob spoke to me. The Lord says: I have been watching over you and I have seen the things that people did to you in Egypt.

So God made the air and separated the water. Some of the water was above the air, and some of the water was below the air.

And then Jacob saw the Lord standing by the ladder. The Lord said, “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham. I am the God of Isaac. I will give you the land that you are lying on now. I will give this land to you and to your children.


And Israel blessed Joseph and said,


When Joseph was near death, he said to his brothers, “My time to die is almost here. But I know that God will take care of you and lead you out of this country. God will lead you to the land he promised to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Then a new king began to rule Egypt. This king did not know Joseph.


Moses carried the bones of Joseph with him. Before Joseph died, he made the sons of Israel promise to do this for him. Joseph said, “When God saves you, remember to carry my bones with you out of Egypt.”

Then Moses said to God, “But the people of Israel will not believe me when I tell them that you sent me. They will say, ‘The Lord [30] did not appear to you.’”


So Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders (leaders) of the people of Israel.


The people believed that God had sent Moses. The people of Israel knew that God had seen their troubles, and that he had come to help them. So they bowed down and worshiped God.


Then God said, “Use your stick in this way and the people will believe that you saw the Lord, the God of your ancestors, [31] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”


Then the leading priests and the older Jewish leaders had a meeting at the palace where the high priest {\cf2\super [393]} lived. The high priest’s name was Caiaphas.


“Praise to the Lord God of Israel (the Jews).\par God has come to help his people\par and has given them freedom.\par


They will destroy you and all your people. Not one stone of your buildings will stay on top of another. All this will happen because you did not know the time when God came to save you.”


They gathered the money and gave it to Barnabas and Saul. Then Barnabas and Saul brought it to the elders {\cf2\super [232]} in Judea.


Simon (Peter) has told us how God showed his love for the non-Jewish people. For the first time, God accepted the non-Jewish people and made them his people.


In Miletus Paul sent a message back to Ephesus. Paul invited the elders {\cf2\super [401]} (leaders) of the church in Ephesus to come to him.


People who don’t believe are living all around you. Those people may say that you are doing wrong. So live good lives. Then they will see the good things you do, and they will give glory to God on that day when he comes.
