8 Moses told Jethro everything the Lord had done for the people of Israel. Moses told about the things the Lord did to Pharaoh and the people of Egypt. Moses told about all the problems they had along the way. And Moses told his father-in-law how the Lord saved the people of Israel every time there was trouble.

Our God, you are the great God,\par the awesome, powerful soldier!\par And you are kind and loyal!\par You keep your agreement!\par We have had many troubles.\par And our troubles are important to you!\par Bad things happened to all our people,\par and to our kings and leaders,\par and to our priests and prophets.\par Those terrible things have happened\par from the days of the king of Assyria\par until today!\par


God saved our ancestors from their enemies!\par God rescued them from their enemies.\par


But God saved our ancestors {\cf2\super [554]} \par for his own name’s sake.\par God saved them to show his great power.\par


That is what every person that the Lord has saved should say.\par The Lord saved them from their enemy.\par


All of you people worshiping God,\par come and I will tell you\par what God did for me.\par

Those people will be filled with fear when they see your strength. They will be as still as a rock until the Lord’s people pass by, until the people you have made pass by.


“Your right arm is amazingly strong. Lord, your right arm shattered the enemy.


The people said, “It would have been better if the Lord had just killed us in the land of Egypt. At least there we had plenty to eat. We had all the food we needed. But now you have brought us out here into this desert. So he can make us die from hunger.”


Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, was a priest in Midian. Jethro heard about the many ways that God helped Moses and the people of Israel. Jethro heard about the Lord leading the people of Israel out of Egypt.


God saw the troubles of the people of Israel, and he knew {that he would soon help them}.


{God said,} “My angel will lead you through the land. He will lead you against many different people—the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. But I will defeat all of those people.


The Lord says, ‘Israel is my firstborn [35] son. And I am telling you to let my son go and worship me! If you refuse to let Israel go, then I will kill your firstborn son.’”


So then I will punish Egypt very much. And I will lead my people out of that land.


Then the people of Egypt will know that I am the Lord. I will be against them, and they will know that I am the Lord. Then I will lead my people out of their country.”


While Moses was at Kadesh, he sent some men with a message to the king of Edom. The message said: “Your brothers, the people of Israel, say to you: You know about all the troubles that we have had.
