Jesus said to him, “You people must see miracles {\cf2\super [71]} and wonderful works before you will believe in me.”


But the Spirit {\cf2\super [118]} was helping Stephen speak with wisdom. His words were so strong that the Jews could not argue with him.


All the people sitting in the meeting watched Stephen closely. His face looked like the face of an angel, and they saw it.


So, brothers and sisters, choose seven of your own men. They must be men that people say are good. They must be full of wisdom and full of the Spirit. {\cf2\super [109]} We will give them this work to do.


The whole group liked the idea. So they chose these seven men: Stephen (a man with great faith and full of the Holy Spirit {\cf2\super [110]}), Philip, {\cf2\super [111]} Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus (a man from Antioch, who had become a Jew).


But Stephen was full of the Holy Spirit. {\cf2\super [151]} Stephen looked up into the sky. He saw the Glory of God. He saw Jesus standing at God’s right side.


The people there heard Philip and saw the miracles {\cf2\super [158]} he was doing. They all listened carefully to the things Philip said.


And that same Christ gave gifts to people—he made some people to be apostles, {\cf2\super [31]} some people to be prophets, {\cf2\super [32]} some people to go and tell the Good News, {\cf2\super [33]} and some people to have the work of caring for and teaching God’s people.


Those persons who serve in a good way are making an honorable place for themselves. And they will feel very sure of their faith in Christ Jesus.
