2 Corinthians 8:9 - Easy To Read Version

9 You know the grace (kindness) of our Lord Jesus Christ. You know that Christ was rich \{with God\}, but for you he became poor. Christ did this so that you could become rich by his becoming poor.

He grew up like a small plant before the Lord. He was like a root growing in dry ground. He did not look special. He had no special glory. If we looked at him, we would see nothing special that would cause us to like him.


“I love Zion,\par so I will continue to speak for her.\par I love Jerusalem,\par so I will not stop speaking.\par I will speak until goodness shines\par like a bright light.\par I will speak until salvation burns bright\par like a flame.\par


The Lord says, “When there is new wine in the grapes, people squeeze out the wine. But they don’t completely destroy the grapes. They do this because the grapes can still be used. I will do the same thing to my servants. I will not completely destroy them.


But we don’t want to make these tax collectors angry. So \{pay the tax in this way\}: Go to the lake and fish. After you catch the first fish, open the fish’s mouth. Inside its mouth you will find a four-drachma coin. Take that coin and give it to the tax collectors. That will pay the tax for you and me.”


It is the same with the Son of Man. {\cf2\super [276]} The Son of Man did not come for other people to serve him. The Son of Man came to serve other people. The Son of Man came to give his life to save many people.”


Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes to live in. The birds have nests to live in. But the Son of Man {\cf2\super [96]} has no place where he can rest his head.”


He is only the carpenter. And his mother is Mary. He is the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters are here with us.” The people did not accept Jesus.


If you cannot be trusted with worldly riches, then you will not be trusted with the true (heavenly) riches.


She gave birth to her first son (Jesus). There was not enough room for them in the house. So Mary wrapped the baby with pieces of cloth and laid the baby in a box where cattle are fed.


Also with these women were: Joanna, the wife of Chuza (Herod’s {\cf2\super [148]} helper), Suzanna, and many other women. These women used their own money to help Jesus and his apostles.

The Word {\cf2\super [4]} was already in the world. The world was made through him. But the world (people) did not know him.


The Word {\cf2\super [5]} became a man and lived among us. We saw his glory—the glory that belongs to the only Son of the Father. The Word was full of grace (kindness) and truth.


The law was given through Moses. But grace and \{the way of\} truth came through Jesus Christ.


Jesus said to the people, “That voice was for you and not for me.


All the things that the Father has are mine. That is why I said that the Spirit will get things from me and tell them to you.


I am making myself ready to serve. I do this for them, so that they can truly be ready for your service.


The Jews’ mistake brought rich blessings for the world. And what the Jews lost brought rich blessings for the non-Jewish people. So surely the world will get much richer blessings when enough Jews become the kind of people God wants.


Even Christ did not live trying to please himself. It was like the Scriptures {\cf2\super [144]} said \{about him\}: “Those people that insulted you have also insulted me.” {\cf2\super [145]}


But Christ died for us while we were still sinners. In that way God showed us that he loves us very much.


He even let his own Son suffer for us. God gave his Son for us all. So with Jesus now, God will surely give us all things.


I always thank my God for you because of the grace (kindness) that God has given you through Christ Jesus.


The first man came from the dust of the earth. The second man (Christ) came from heaven.


The grace (kindness) of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship (sharing) of the Holy Spirit {\cf2\super [50]} be with you all.


We have much sadness, but we are always rejoicing. We are poor, but we are making many people rich \{in faith\}. We have nothing, but really we have everything.


God did this so that for all future time he could show the very great riches of his grace. God shows that grace by being kind to us in Christ Jesus.


Christ’s love is greater than any person can ever know. But I pray that you will be able to know that love. Then you can be filled with the fullness of God.


I am the least important of all of God’s people. But God gave me this gift—to tell the non-Jewish people the Good News about the riches Christ has. Those riches are too great to understand fully.


Tell the rich people to do good. Tell them to be rich in doing good things. And tell them to be happy to give and ready to share.


And now in these last days God has spoken to us again. God has spoken to us through his Son. God made the whole world through his Son. And God has chosen his Son to have all things.


Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! God chose the poor people in the world to be rich with faith. He chose them to receive the kingdom God promised to people who love him.


I know your troubles, and I know that you are poor. But really you are rich! I know the bad things that some people say \{about you\}. Those people say they are Jews. But they are not true Jews. They are a synagogue (group) that belongs to Satan (the devil).


Any person that wins the victory will receive all this. And I will be his God, and he will be my son.


I advise you to buy gold from me—gold made pure in fire. Then you can be truly rich. I tell you this: Buy clothes that are white. Then you can cover your shameful nakedness. I also tell you to buy medicine to put on your eyes. Then you can truly see.
