And again he denied with an oath, I know not the man.


Then he began to curse and to swear that he knew not the man. And immediately the cock crew.


But he denied again. And after a while they that stood by said again to Peter: Surely thou art one of them; for thou art also a Galilean.


And they were all amazed, and wondered, saying: Behold, are not all these, that speak, Galileans?


They asked him: Say then, Shibboleth, which is interpreted, An ear of corn. But he answered, Sibboleth, not being able to express an ear of corn by the same letter. Then presently they took him and killed him in the very passage of the Jordan. And there fell at that time of Ephraim two and forty thousand.
