And Nehemias (he is Athersatha) and Esdras the priest and scribe, and the Levites who interpreted to all the people, said: This is a holy day to the Lord our God: do not mourn, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.


My harp is turned to mourning: and my organ into the voice of those that weep.


Laughter shall be mingled with sorrow, and mourning taketh hold of the end of joy.


Laughter I counted error: and to mirth I said: Why art thou vainly deceived?


Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, the young men and old men together: and I will turn their mourning into joy and will comfort them and make them joyful after their sorrow.


They shall come with weeping: and I will bring them back in mercy. And I will bring them through the torrents of waters in a right way: and they shall not stumble in it. For I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.


The joy of our heart is ceased: our dancing is turned into mourning.
