And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto Jehovah your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.


Therefore is my harp turned to mourning, And my pipe into the voice of them that weep.


Streams of water run down mine eyes, Because they observe not thy law. צ TSADHE.


Before I was afflicted I went astray; But now I observe thy word.


It is good for me that I have been afflicted; That I may learn thy statutes.


Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; And the end of mirth is heaviness.


I said of laughter, It is mad; and of mirth, What doeth it?


Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.


They shall come with weeping; and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born.


The joy of our heart is ceased; Our dance is turned into mourning.
