In the mean time there arose a new king over Egypt, that knew not Joseph.


The expectation of the just is joy; but the hope of the wicked shall perish.


And whatsoever my eyes desired, I refused them not: and I withheld not my heart from enjoying every pleasure, and delighting itself in the things which I had prepared: and esteemed this my portion, to make use of my own labour.


And I have found that nothing is better than for a man to rejoice in his work, and that this is his portion. For who shall bring him to know the things that shall be after him?


All these things have I considered in my heart, that I might carefully understand them: there are just men and wise men, and their works are in the hand of God: and yet man knoweth not whether he be worthy of love, or hatred:


I said: I shall not see the Lord God in the land of the living. I shall behold man no more, nor the inhabitant of rest.


Saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel. For they are dead that sought the life of the child.
