For the Lord God of Armies had a day of tumult, trampling, and confusion in the Valley of Vision – people shouting  and crying to the mountains;

They will look towards the earth  and see only distress, darkness, and the gloom of affliction, and they will be driven into thick darkness.

How awful that day will be! There will be no other like it! It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be saved out of it.

The Lord makes his voice heard in the presence of his army. His camp is very large; those who carry out his command are powerful. Indeed, the day of the Lord is terrible and dreadful   – who can endure it?

a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and total darkness, like the dawn spreading over the mountains; a great and strong people   appears, such as never existed in ages past and never will again in all the generations to come.

The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and terrible day of the  Lord  comes.

Their silver and their gold will be unable to rescue them on the day of the  Lord’s wrath. The whole earth will be consumed by the fire of his jealousy, for he will make a complete, yes, a horrifying end of all the inhabitants of the earth.

before the decree  takes effect and the day passes like chaff, before the burning of the  Lord’s anger  overtakes you, before the day of the  Lord’s anger overtakes you.

‘Immediately after the distress   of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Because of your hardened and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath  for yourself in the day of wrath,  when God’s righteous judgement is revealed.

They will besiege you within all your city gates until your high and fortified walls, that you trust in, come down throughout your land. They will besiege you within all your city gates throughout the land the Lord your God has given you.

By the same word,  the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire, being kept for the day of judgement  and destruction of the ungodly.
