Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; their voices are heard as far away as Jahaz. Therefore the soldiers of Moab cry out, and they tremble.


Listen! Their warriors cry loudly in the streets; the messengers of peace weep bitterly.


A sound of uproar from the city! A voice from the temple – the voice of the  Lord, paying back his enemies what they deserve!


They will look towards the earth  and see only distress, darkness, and the gloom of affliction, and they will be driven into thick darkness.


Hear the sound of the shepherds’ cry, the wail of the leaders of the flock, for the Lord is destroying their pasture.


How awful that day will be! There will be no other like it! It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be saved out of it.


Why have I seen this? They are terrified, they are retreating, their warriors are crushed, they flee headlong, they never look back, terror is on every side! This is the  Lord’s declaration.


The towns have   been captured, and the strongholds seized. In that day the heart of Moab’s warriors will be like the heart of a woman with contractions.


Therefore say to them, “This is what the Lord God says: I will put a stop to this proverb, and they will not use it again in Israel.”  But say to them, “The days have arrived,  as well as the fulfilment of every vision.


For a day is near; a day belonging to the  Lord is near. It will be a day of clouds, a time of doom  for the nations.


The time has come; the day has arrived. Let the buyer not rejoice and the seller not mourn, for wrath is on her whole crowd.


The survivors among them will escape and live on the mountains. Like doves of the valley, all of them will moan, each over his own iniquity.


Woe because of that day! For the day of the  Lord is near and will come as devastation from the Almighty.


Blow the ram’s horn in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the residents of the land tremble, for the day of the  Lord is coming; in fact, it is near –


The Lord makes his voice heard in the presence of his army. His camp is very large; those who carry out his command are powerful. Indeed, the day of the Lord is terrible and dreadful   – who can endure it?


The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and terrible day of the  Lord  comes.


Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the  Lord is near in the valley of decision.


The Lord will roar from Zion and make his voice heard from Jerusalem; heaven and earth will shake. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the Israelites.


He asked me, ‘What do you see, Amos? ’ I replied, ‘A basket of summer fruit.’  , The Lord said to me, ‘The end has come for my people Israel;  I will no longer spare them.


On that day – this is the  Lord’s declaration – there will be an outcry from the Fish Gate, a wailing from the Second District, and a loud crashing from the hills.


Be silent in the presence of the Lord God, for the day of the  Lord is near. Indeed, the Lord has prepared a sacrifice; he has consecrated his guests.


Look, I am going to send you the prophet Elijah  before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes.


The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and glorious day of the Lord    comes.


Let your graciousness  be known to everyone. The Lord is near.


For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout,  , with the archangel’s  voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ  will rise first.


His voice shook the earth at that time, but now he has promised, Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.   ,


Brothers and sisters, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged. Look, the judge stands at the door!


They will exploit  you in their greed  with made-up stories. Their condemnation,  pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.
