Now Elijah  the Tishbite, from the Gilead settlers,  , said to Ahab, ‘As the Lord God of Israel lives,  in whose presence I stand, there will be no dew or rain during these years except by my command! ’


He replied, ‘I have not ruined Israel, but you and your father’s family have, because you have abandoned the Lord’s commands  and followed the Baals.


The prophet said to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Because you released from your hand the man I had set apart for destruction,  it will be your life in place of his life and your people in place of his people.” ’


But Micaiah said, ‘If you ever return safely, the Lord has not spoken through me.’  Then he said, ‘Listen, all you people! ’  ,


While he was still speaking to him, the king asked, ‘Have we made you the king’s counsellor? Stop, why should you lose your life? ’ So the prophet stopped, but he said, ‘I know that God intends to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my advice.’


The Lord spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they didn’t listen.


He also rebelled against  King Nebuchadnezzar who had made him swear allegiance by God. He became obstinate  , and hardened his heart against returning to the Lord, the God of Israel.


You warned them to turn back to your law, but they acted arrogantly and would not obey your commands. They sinned against your ordinances, which a person will live by if he does them. They stubbornly resisted, stiffened their necks, and would not obey.


God is wise  and all-powerful. Who has opposed him and come out unharmed?


Pharaoh sent messengers who saw that not a single one of the Israelite livestock was dead. But Pharaoh’s heart was hard,  and he did not let the people go.


Happy is the one who is always reverent, but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble.


The one who lives with integrity will be helped, but one who distorts right and wrong will suddenly fall.


When the wicked come to power, people hide, but when they are destroyed, the righteous flourish.


Therefore calamity will strike him suddenly; he will be shattered instantly, beyond recovery.


So now, do not scoff, or your shackles will become stronger. Indeed, I have heard from the Lord God of Armies a decree of destruction for the whole land.


Because I know that you are stubborn, and your neck is iron and your forehead bronze,


Have you completely rejected Judah? Do you detest   Zion? Why do you strike us with no hope of healing for us? We hoped for peace, but there was nothing good; for a time of healing, but there was only terror.


They wouldn’t listen or pay attention but became obstinate,  not listening or accepting discipline.


I will punish him, his descendants, and his officers for their iniquity. I will bring on them, on the residents of Jerusalem, and on the people of Judah all the disaster, which I warned them about but they did not listen.” ’


Won’t your creditors suddenly arise, and those who disturb you wake up? Then you will become spoil for them.


‘I’m not speaking about all of you; I know those I have chosen.   But the Scripture   must be fulfilled:   The one who eats my bread   has raised his heel against me.   ,


Jesus replied, ‘He’s the one I give the piece of bread to after I have dipped it.’   When he had dipped the bread,  he gave it to Judas, Simon Iscariot’s son.


Now this man acquired a field with his unrighteous wages. He fell headfirst, his body burst open and his intestines spilled out.


to take the place  in this apostolic ministry  that Judas left to go where he belongs.’


When they say, ‘Peace and security’, then sudden destruction  will come upon them, like labour pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.


If one person sins against another, God can intercede for him, but if a person sins against the Lord, who can intercede for him? ’  But they would not listen to their father, since the Lord intended to kill them.


This will be the sign that will come to you concerning your two sons Hophni and Phinehas:  both of them will die on the same day.
