But when the matter was brought before the king,  he commanded by letter that the evil plan Haman had devised against the Jews return on his own head  and that he should be hanged with his sons on the gallows.


Why does the Almighty not reserve times for judgement? Why do those who know him never see his days?


A wicked man’s iniquities will trap him; he will become tangled in the ropes of his own sin.


This is what the Lord says: ‘Concerning all my evil neighbours who attack the inheritance that I bequeathed to my people, Israel, I am about to uproot them  from their land, and I will uproot the house of Judah from them.


For this is what the Lord says: ‘If those who do not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, can you possibly remain unpunished? You will not remain unpunished, for you must drink it too.


Summon the archers to Babylon, all who string the bow; camp all round her; let none escape. Repay her according to her deeds; just as she has done, do the same to her, for she has acted arrogantly against the  Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.


for a destroyer is coming against her, against Babylon. Her warriors will be captured, their bows shattered, for the Lord is a God of retribution; he will certainly repay.


For a day is near; a day belonging to the  Lord is near. It will be a day of clouds, a time of doom  for the nations.


therefore, as I live #– #this is the declaration of the Lord God  #– #I will treat you according to the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them. I will make myself known among them  when I judge you.


Just as you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel because it became a desolation, I will deal the same way with you: you will become a desolation, Mount Seir, and so will all Edom in its entirety. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”


Woe because of that day! For the day of the  Lord is near and will come as devastation from the Almighty.


Blow the ram’s horn in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the residents of the land tremble, for the day of the  Lord is coming; in fact, it is near –


The Lord makes his voice heard in the presence of his army. His camp is very large; those who carry out his command are powerful. Indeed, the day of the Lord is terrible and dreadful   – who can endure it?


Woe to you who long for the day of the  Lord! What will the day of the  Lord be for you? It will be darkness and not light.


Won’t the day of the  Lord be darkness rather than light, even gloom without any brightness in it?


I will take vengeance in anger and wrath against the nations that have not obeyed me.


Since you have plundered many nations, all the peoples who remain will plunder you   – because of human bloodshed and violence  against lands, cities, and all who live in them.


For you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others, and you will be measured by the same measure you use.


For judgement is without mercy to the one who has not shown mercy.  Mercy triumphs over judgement.


Adoni-bezek said, ‘Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up scraps  under my table. God has repaid me for what I have done.’ They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
