18 I told them how the gracious hand of my God had been on me,  and what the king had said to me. They said, ‘Let’s start rebuilding,’ and their hands were strengthened  to do this good work.

Therefore, be strong  and valiant, for though Saul your lord is dead, the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.’


The following were the chiefs of David’s warriors who, together with all Israel, strongly supported him in his reign to make him king according to the Lord’s word about Israel.


Be strong! Let’s prove ourselves strong for our people and for the cities of our God.  May the Lord’s will be done.’


Then Hezekiah strengthened his position by rebuilding the entire broken-down wall  and heightening the towers and the other outside wall.  He repaired the supporting terraces  of the city of David, and made an abundance of weapons and shields.


They observed the Festival of Unleavened Bread for seven days  with joy, because the Lord had made them joyful, having changed the Assyrian king’s attitude towards them, so that he supported them  in the work on the house of the God of Israel.


And let me have a letter written to Asaph, keeper of the king’s forest, so that he will give me timber to rebuild the gates of the temple’s fortress,  the city wall, and the home where I will live.’  , The king granted my requests, for the gracious hand of my God was on me.


Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength.


For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.
