This is what the Lord says: Where is your mother’s divorce certificate that I used to send her away? Or to which of my creditors did I sell you? Look, you were sold for your iniquities, and your mother was sent away because of your transgressions.


I  observed that it was because unfaithful Israel had committed adultery that I had sent her away and had given her a certificate of divorce.  Nevertheless, her treacherous sister Judah was not afraid but also went and prostituted herself.


‘If he hates  and divorces his wife,’  says the Lord God of Israel, ‘he  covers his garment with injustice,’  says the Lord of Armies. Therefore, watch yourselves carefully,  and do not act treacherously.


So her husband, Joseph, being a righteous man,  and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, decided to divorce her secretly.


So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.’


He told them, ‘Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of the hardness of your hearts, but it was not like that from the beginning.


‘It was also said, Whoever divorces   his wife must give her a written notice of divorce.   ,


They said, ‘Moses permitted us to write divorce papers  and send her away.’
