Abraham looked up and saw a ram  caught in the thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram and offered it as a burnt offering in place of his son.


‘Take your son,’ he said, ‘your only son Isaac, whom you love,  go to the land of Moriah,  and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.’


Abraham answered, ‘God himself will provide  , the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.’ Then the two of them walked on together.


Then Noah built an altar to the Lord. He took some of every kind of clean animal and every kind of clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.


The number of burnt offerings the congregation brought was seventy bulls, one hundred rams, and two hundred lambs; all these were for a burnt offering to the Lord.


They removed the burnt offerings so that they might be given to the groupings of the ancestral families  of the lay people to offer to the Lord, according to what is written in the book of Moses; they did the same with the cattle.


You must have an unblemished  animal, a year-old male; you may take it from either the sheep or the goats.


Then he sent out young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as fellowship offerings to the Lord.


Then burn the whole ram on the altar; it is a burnt offering to the Lord. It is a pleasing aroma,  a food offering to the Lord.


Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting and wash them with water.


This will be a regular burnt offering throughout your generations at the entrance to the tent of meeting before the Lord, where I will meet you  to speak with you.


Early the next morning they arose, offered burnt offerings, and presented fellowship offerings. The people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to party.


Everyone whose heart was moved and whose spirit prompted him came and brought an offering to the Lord for the work on the tent of meeting, for all its services, and for the holy garments.


So the Israelites brought a freewill offering to the Lord, all the men and women whose hearts prompted them to bring something for all the work that the Lord, through Moses, had commanded to be done.


Take  up an offering among you for the Lord. Let everyone whose heart is willing bring this as the Lord’s offering: gold, silver, and bronze;


They took from Moses’s presence all the contributions that the Israelites had brought for the task of making the sanctuary. Meanwhile, the people continued to bring freewill offerings morning after morning.


Bezalel  constructed the altar of burnt offering from acacia wood. It was square, 2.25 metres long and 2.25 metres wide,  and was 1.35 metres  high.


‘What are all your sacrifices to me? ’ asks the Lord. ‘I have had enough of burnt offerings and rams and the fat of well-fed cattle; I have no desire for the blood of bulls, lambs, or male goats.


For on my holy mountain, Israel’s high mountain #– #the declaration of the Lord God  #– #there the entire house of Israel, all of them,  will serve me in the land. There I will accept them and will require your contributions and choicest gifts,  all your holy offerings.


Inside the gate’s portico there were two tables on each side, on which to slaughter the burnt offering, sin offering,  and guilt offering.


‘But if his offering for a burnt offering is from the flock, from sheep or goats,  he is to present an unblemished male.

‘Say to them: Anyone from the house of Israel or from the foreigners  who reside among them who offers a burnt offering or a sacrifice


but does not bring it to the entrance to the tent of meeting to sacrifice it to the Lord, that person is to be cut off from his people.


On the day you present the sheaf, you are to offer a year-old male lamb  without blemish  as a burnt offering to the Lord.


You are to present with the bread seven unblemished male lambs a year old, one young bull, and two rams. They will be a burnt offering to the Lord, with their grain offerings and drink offerings, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord.


‘If his offering is a fellowship sacrifice,  and he is presenting an animal from the herd, whether male or female, he is to present one without blemish  before the Lord.


The elders  of the community are to lay their hands on the bull’s head before the Lord and it is to be slaughtered before the Lord.


or someone informs him about the sin he has committed, he is to bring an unblemished male goat  as his offering.


‘If the anointed priest  sins, bringing guilt  on the people, he is to present to the Lord a young, unblemished  bull as a sin  offering  for the sin he has committed.


‘Or if the offering that he brings as a sin offering is a lamb,  he is to bring an unblemished female.


‘If someone offends  by sinning unintentionally  in regard to any of the Lord’s holy things,  he must bring his penalty for guilt to the Lord: an unblemished ram from the flock (based on your assessment of its value in silver shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel  ) as a guilt offering.

Then he presented the ram for the burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram.


but he washed the entrails and legs with water. He then burned the entire ram on the altar. It was a burnt offering for a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the Lord as he had commanded Moses.


He said to Aaron, ‘Take a young bull for a sin  offering and a ram for a burnt offering, both without blemish,  and present them before the Lord.


Sword, awake against my shepherd, against the man who is my associate – this is the declaration of the  Lord of Armies. Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; I will turn my hand against the little ones.

‘If you prepare a young bull as a burnt offering or as a sacrifice, to fulfil a vow, or as a fellowship offering to the Lord,


‘This is the legal statute that the Lord has commanded: Instruct the Israelites to bring you an unblemished red cow that has no defect and has never been yoked.


God is not a man, that he might lie, or a son of man, that he might change his mind. Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfil?


Again Balak said to Balaam, ‘Please come. I will take you to another place. Maybe it will be agreeable to God that you can put a curse on them for me there.’


Balaam said to Balak, ‘Stay here by your burnt offering while I am gone. Maybe the Lord will meet with me. I will tell you whatever he reveals to me.’ So he went to a barren hill.

He did this to present the church to himself in splendour, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but holy and blameless.


Present the meat and blood of your burnt offerings on the altar of the Lord your God. The blood of your other sacrifices is to be poured out beside the altar of the Lord your God, but you may eat the meat.


But if there is a defect in the animal, if it is lame or blind or has any serious defect, you may not sacrifice it to the Lord your God.


‘Do not sacrifice to the Lord your God an ox or sheep with a defect or any serious flaw, for that is detestable to the Lord your God.


For this is the kind of high priest we need: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.


how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit  offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse our  consciences from dead works so that we can serve the living God?
