Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw behind his back a ram amongst the briers sticking fast by the horns: which he took and offered for a holocaust instead of his son.


He said to him: Take thy only begotten son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and go into the land of vision: and there thou shalt offer him for a holocaust upon one of the mountains which I will shew thee.


And Abraham said: God will provide himself a victim for a holocaust, my son. So they went on together.


And Noe built an altar unto the Lord: and taking of all cattle and fowls that were clean, offered holocausts upon the altar.


And the number of the holocausts which the multitude offered was seventy bullocks, a hundred rams, and two hundred lambs.


And they separated them to give them by the houses and families of every one, and to be offered to the Lord, as it is written in the book of Moses. And with the oxen they did in like manner.


His work is praise and magnificence: and his justice continueth for ever and ever.


All my enemies whispered together against me: they devised evils to me.


And it shall be a lamb without blemish, a male, of one year: according to which rite also you shall take a kid.


And he sent young men of the children of Israel: and they offered holocausts, and sacrificed pacific victims of calves to the Lord.

He delivered all the offerings of the children of Israel unto them. And while they were earnest about the work, the people daily in the morning offered their vows.


He made also the altar of holocaust of setim wood, five cubits square, and three in height.


To what purpose do you offer me the multitude of your victims, saith the Lord? I am full, I desire not holocausts of rams, and fat of fatlings, and blood of calves, and lambs, and buck goats.


In my holy mountain, in the high mountain of Israel, saith the Lord God, there shall all the house of Israel serve me; all of them, I say, in the land in which they shall please me. And there will I require your first-fruits, and the chief of your tithes with all your sanctifications.


And in the porch of the gate were two tables on this side, and two tables on that side: that the holocaust, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering might be slain thereon.


And if the offering be of the flocks, a holocaust of sheep or of goats, he shall offer a male without blemish.


On the eighth day, he shall take two lambs without blemish, and an ewe of a year old without blemish, and three tenths of flour tempered with oil for a sacrifice, and a sextary of oil apart.


He shall make the two buck-goats to stand before the Lord in the door of the tabernacle of the testimony.


And offer it not at the door of the tabernacle an oblation to the Lord, shall be guilty of blood. As if he had shed blood, so shall he perish from the midst of his people.


And thou shalt say to them: The man of the house of Israel, and of the strangers who sojourn among you, that offereth a holocaust or a victim,


And bringeth it not to the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, that it may be offered to the Lord, shall perish from among his people.


And on the same day that the sheaf is consecrated, a lamb without blemish of the first year shall be killed for a holocaust of the Lord.


And you shall offer with the loaves seven lambs without blemish of the first year, and one calf from the herd, and two rams: and they shall be for a holocaust with their libations far a most sweet odour to the Lord.


And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace-offerings, and he will offer of the herd, whether male or female: he shall offer them without blemish before the Lord.


And the ancients of the people shall put their hands upon the head thereof before the Lord. And the calf being immolated in the sight of the Lord:


And afterwards shall come to know his sin: he shall offer a buck-goat without blemish, a sacrifice to the Lord.


If the priest that is anointed shall sin, making the people to offend, he shall offer to the Lord for his sin a calf without blemish.


But if he offer of the flock a victim for his sin, to wit, an ewe without blemish:


If any one shall sin through mistake, transgressing the ceremonies in those things that are sacrificed to the Lord, he shall offer for his offence a ram without blemish out of the flocks, that may be bought for two sicles, according to the weight of the sanctuary.


He shall offer of the flocks a ram without blemish to the priest, according to the measure and estimation of the sin. And the priest shall pray for him, because he did it ignorantly: and it shall be forgiven him,


Whosoever shall sin, and despising the Lord, shall deny to his neighbour the thing delivered to his keeping, which was committed to his trust; or shall by force extort any thing, or commit oppression;


And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:


If any man by vow, or of his own accord offer a sacrifice, it shall in like manner be eaten the same day. And if any of it remain until the morrow, it is lawful to eat it.


He offered also a ram for a holocaust. And when Aaron and his sons had put their hands upon its head:


Having first washed the entrails, and the feet, and the whole ram together he burnt upon the altar: because it was a holocaust of most sweet odour to the Lord, as he had commanded him.


Take of the herd a calf for sin, and a ram for a holocaust, both without blemish, and offer them before the Lord.


Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that cleaveth to me, saith the Lord of hosts: strike the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn my hand to the little ones.


Cursed is the deceitful man that hath in his flock a male, and making a vow offereth in sacrifice that which is feeble to the Lord: for I am a great King, saith the Lord of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the Gentiles.

This is the observance of the victim, which the Lord hath ordained. Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee a red cow of full age, in which there is no blemish, and which hath not carried the yoke.


God is not a man, that he should lie: nor as the son of man, that he should be changed. Hath he said then, and will he not do? Hath he spoken, and will he not fulfil?


And Balac said to him: Come and I will bring thee to another place. If peradventure it please God that thou mayest curse them from thence.


And Balaam said to Balac: Stand a while by thy burnt-offering, until I go, to see if perhaps the Lord will meet me, and whatsoever he shall command, I will speak to thee.


Balac did as Balaam had said: and he laid on every altar a calf and a ram.


And on the first day of the month you shall offer a holocaust to the Lord, two calves of the herd, one ram, and seven lambs of a year old, without blemish.


And you shall offer a burnt-sacrifice a holocaust to the Lord: two calves of the herd, one ram, seven lambs of a year old, without blemish.


You shall offer them all without blemish with their libations.


And you shall offer a holocaust for a most sweet odour to the Lord: thirteen calves of the herd, two rams, and fourteen lambs of a year old, without blemish:


And you shall offer a holocaust for a most sweet odour to the Lord: one calf of the herd, one ram and seven lambs of a year old, without blemish.


And the angel answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the most High shall overshadow thee. And therefore also the Holy which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.


And beholding Jesus walking, he saith: Behold the Lamb of God.


Jesus therefore said to them again: Amen, amen I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.


I am the door. By me, if any man enter in, he shall be saved: and he shall go in, and go out, and shall find pastures.


For if the will be forward, it is accepted according to that which a man hath, not according to that which he hath not.


Every one as he hath determined in his heart, not with sadness, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.


For by him we have access both in one Spirit to the Father.


That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any; such thing; but that it should be holy, and without blemish.


And shalt offer thy oblations, the flesh and the blood upon the altar of the Lord thy God. The blood of thy victims thou shalt pour on the altar: and the flesh thou thyself shalt eat.


But if it have a blemish, or be lame, or blind, or in any part disfigured or feeble, it shall not be sacrificed to the Lord thy God.


Thou shalt not sacrifice to the Lord thy God a sheep, or an ox, wherein there is blemish, or any fault: for that is an abomination to the Lord thy God.


For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;


How much more shall the blood of Christ, who by the Holy Ghost offered himself unspotted unto God, cleanse our conscience from dead works, to serve the living God?
