Their border on the north side began at the Jordan, ascended to the slope of Jericho on the north, through the hill country westwards, and ended at the wilderness around Beth-aven.


Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men as spies  from the Acacia Grove,  saying, ‘Go and scout the land, especially Jericho.’ So they left, and they came to the house of a prostitute named Rahab,  and stayed there.


After returning to Joshua they reported to him, ‘Don’t send all the people, but send about two thousand or three thousand  men to attack Ai. Since the people of Ai are so few, don’t wear out all our people there.’


The Philistines also gathered to fight against Israel: three thousand  chariots, six thousand horsemen, and troops as numerous as the sand on the seashore.  They went up and camped at Michmash, east of Beth-aven.  ,


So the Lord saved Israel that day. The battle extended beyond Beth-aven,


He sent gifts  to those in Bethel,  in Ramoth of the Negev,  and in Jattir;
