‘We cannot do this thing,’ they said to them. ‘Giving our sister to an uncircumcised man is a disgrace to us.


Then the king returned. When he arrived at the Jordan, Judah came to Gilgal to meet the king and escort him across the Jordan.


from Beth-gilgal, and from the fields of Geba and Azmaveth, for they had built settlements for themselves around Jerusalem.


‘ “Look, the days are coming #– #this is the Lord’s declaration #– #when I will punish all the circumcised yet uncircumcised:


who acted like prostitutes in Egypt,  behaving promiscuously in their youth. Their breasts were fondled there, and their virgin nipples caressed.


She didn’t give up her promiscuity that began in Egypt,  when men slept with her in her youth, caressed her virgin nipples, and poured out their lust on her.


Israel, if you act promiscuously, don’t let Judah become guilty! Do not go to Gilgal or make a pilgrimage to Beth-aven,  , and do not swear an oath: As the  Lord  lives!


‘Bring the one who has cursed to the outside of the camp and have all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then have the whole community stone him.


Do not seek Bethel or go to Gilgal or journey to Beer-sheba, for Gilgal will certainly go into exile, and Bethel will come to nothing.


My people, remember what King Balak of Moab   proposed, what Balaam son of Beor answered him, and what happened from the Acacia Grove  , to Gilgal, so that you may acknowledge the Lord’s righteous acts.


I have heard the taunting  of Moab and the insults of the Ammonites, who have taunted my people and threatened their territory.

After the entire nation had been circumcised, they stayed where they were in the camp until they recovered.


Jonathan said to the attendant who carried his weapons, ‘Come on, let’s cross over to the garrison of these uncircumcised men.  Perhaps the Lord will help us. Nothing can keep the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.’


David spoke to the men who were standing with him: ‘What will be done for the man who kills that Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel?  Just who is this uncircumcised Philistine  that he should defy the armies  of the living God? ’


Your servant has killed lions and bears; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.’


Every year he would go on a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah and would judge Israel at all these locations.
