31 Israel worshipped the Lord throughout Joshua’s lifetime and during the lifetimes of the elders who outlived Joshua  and who had experienced all the works the Lord had done for Israel.

Now the Siddim Valley contained many bitumen pits, and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some fell into them,  but the rest fled to the mountains.


Throughout the time of the priest Jehoiada, Joash did what was right in the Lord’s sight.


So Josiah removed everything that was detestable from all the lands belonging to the Israelites,  and he required all who were present in Israel to serve the Lord their God. Throughout his reign they did not turn aside from following the Lord, the God of their ancestors.


I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.


Understand today that it is not your children who experienced or saw the discipline of the Lord your God: His greatness, strong hand, and outstretched arm;


Your own eyes have seen  every great work the Lord has done.


Then their children  who do not know the law will listen and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.’


For I know that after my death you will become completely corrupt and turn from the path I have commanded you. Disaster will come to you in the future, because you will do what is evil in the Lord’s sight, angering him with what your hands have made.’


Therefore, my dear friends,  just as you have always obeyed,  so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.


That whole generation was also gathered to their ancestors. After them another generation rose up who did not know the Lord   or the works he had done for Israel.


Previously, when Joshua had sent the people away, the Israelites had gone to take possession of the land, each to his own inheritance.


The people worshipped the Lord throughout Joshua’s lifetime and during the lifetimes of the elders who outlived Joshua. They had seen all the Lord’s great works  he had done for Israel.
