and went and sat at a distance, about a bow shot away, for she said, ‘I can’t bear to watch the boy die! ’ While she sat at a distance, she  wept loudly.


For how can I go back to my father without the boy? I could not bear to see the grief that would overwhelm my father.’


“Therefore, I will indeed gather you to your ancestors, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace.  Your eyes will not see all the disaster that I am bringing on this place.” ’ Then they reported  to the king.


They slaughtered Zedekiah’s sons before his eyes. Finally, the king of Babylon blinded Zedekiah, bound him in bronze chains, and took him to Babylon.


“I will indeed gather you to your ancestors, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster that I am bringing on this place and on its inhabitants.” ’ Then they reported to the king.


For how could I bear to see the disaster that would come on my people?  How could I bear to see the destruction of my relatives? ’


Their children will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted, and their wives raped.


No nobles will be left to proclaim a king, and all her princes will come to nothing.


for this is what the Lord says, “I am about to make you a terror to both yourself and those you love.  They will fall by the sword of their enemies before your very eyes.  I will hand Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will deport them to Babylon and put them to the sword.


Afterwards #– #this is the Lord’s declaration #– #King Zedekiah of Judah, his officers, and the people #– #those in this city who survive the plague, the sword, and the famine #– #I will hand over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon,  to their enemies, yes, to those who intend to take their lives. He will put them to the sword; he won’t spare them or show pity or compassion.”


As for you, you will not escape  from him but are certain to be captured and handed over to him. You will meet the king of Babylon eye to eye and speak face to face;  , you will go to Babylon.


All your wives and children will be brought out to the Chaldeans.  You yourself will not escape from them, for you will be seized by the king of Babylon and this city will burn.” ’


At Riblah the king of Babylon slaughtered Zedekiah’s sons before his eyes, and he also slaughtered the Judean commanders.


They will come against you with an assembly of peoples and with weapons, chariots, and  carts. They will set themselves against you on every side with large and small shields and helmets. I will delegate judgement to them, and they will judge you by their own standards.


Take the choicest of the flock and also pile up the fuel  under it. Bring it to a boil and cook the bones in it.


On the day of the  Lord’s sacrifice I will punish the officials, the king’s sons, and all who are dressed in foreign clothing.


You will be driven mad by what you see.
