He built altars to all the stars in the sky in both courtyards  of the Lord’s temple.


Manasseh  set up a carved image of the idol, which he had made, in God’s temple  that God had spoken about to David and his son Solomon: ‘I will establish my name for ever  , in this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.


All the leaders of the priests and the people multiplied their unfaithful deeds, imitating all the detestable practices of the nations, and they defiled the Lord’s temple that he had consecrated in Jerusalem.


The following were found to have married foreign women from the descendants of the priests: from the descendants of Jeshua son of Jozadak and his brothers: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah.


What right does my beloved have to be in my house, having carried out so many evil schemes? Can holy meat  , prevent your disaster so that you can celebrate?


Therefore, this is what the Lord of Armies says concerning the prophets: I am about to feed them wormwood and give them poisoned water to drink, for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness  has spread throughout the land.


They have placed their abhorrent things  in the house that bears my name and have defiled it.


The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority. My people love it like this. But what will you do at the end of it?


My people were lost sheep; their shepherds led them astray, guiding them the wrong way in the mountains. They wandered from mountain to hill; they forgot their resting place.


For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is making profit dishonestly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.


‘For the Judeans have done what is evil in my sight.’ This is the Lord’s declaration. ‘They have set up their abhorrent things  in the house that bears my name in order to defile it.


Therefore, I will give  their wives to other men, their fields to new occupants, for from the least to the greatest, everyone is making profit dishonestly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.


Lord, look and consider to whom you have done this. Should women eat their own children, the infants they have nurtured? Should priests and prophets be killed in the Lord’s sanctuary?


On the same day they slaughtered their children for their idols, they entered my sanctuary to profane it.  Yes, that is what they did inside my house.


Surely the Levites who wandered away from me when Israel went astray, and who strayed from me after their idols,  will bear the consequences of their iniquity.


He appointed his beautiful ornaments for majesty, but  they made their detestable images from them, their abhorrent things. Therefore, I have made these into something filthy to them.


Seventy elders from the house of Israel were standing before them, with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan  standing among them. Each had a firepan in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising up.


So he brought me to the inner court of the Lord’s house, and there were about twenty-five men at the entrance of the Lord’s temple, between the portico and the altar,  with their backs to the Lord’s temple and their faces turned to the east.  They were bowing to the east in worship of the sun.


The  princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are wolves of the night, which leave nothing for   the morning.


Her prophets are reckless   – treacherous men. Her priests profane the sanctuary; they do violence to instruction.
