And he built them for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.


He set also a graven and a molten statue in the house of God, of which God had said to David, and to Solomon his son: In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever.


Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people wickedly transgressed according to all the abominations of the Gentiles: and they defiled the house of the Lord, which he had sanctified to himself in Jerusalem.


And there were found among the sons of the priests that had taken strange wives: Of the sons of Josue the son of Josedec, and his brethren, Maasia, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Godolia.


What is the meaning that my beloved hath wrought muck wickedness in my house? Shall the holy flesh take away from thee thy crimes in which thou hast boasted?


Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts to the prophets: Behold, I will feed them with wormwood and I will give them gall to drink: for from the prophets of Jerusalem corruption is gone forth into all the land.


And they have set their idols in the house in which my name is called upon, to defile it.


The prophets prophesied falsehood, and the priests clapped their hands: and my people loved such things. What then shall be done in the end thereof?


My people have been a lost flock: their shepherds have caused them to go astray and have made them wander in the mountains. They have gone from mountain to hill: they have forgotten their resting place.


For, from the least of them even to the greatest, all are given to covetousness: and from the prophet even to the priest, all are guilty of deceit.


Because the children of Juda have done evil in my eyes, saith the Lord. They have set their abominations in the house in which my name is called upon, to pollute it.


Therefore I will give their women to strangers, their fields to others for an inheritance: because from the least even to the greatest all follow covetousness: from the prophet even to the priest all deal deceitfully.


Res. Behold O Lord, and consider whom thou hast thus dealt with. Shall women then eat their own fruit, their children of a span long? Shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?


And when they sacrificed their children to their idols and went into my sanctuary the same day to profane it: they did these things even in the midst of my house.


Moreover the Levites that went away far from me, when the children of Israel went astray, and have wandered from me after their idols, and have borne their iniquity:


And they have turned the ornament of their jewels into pride and have made of it the images of their abominations and idols: therefore I have made it an uncleanness to them.


And seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel and Jezonias the son of Saaphan stood in the midst of them that stood before the pictures. And every one had a censer in his hand: and a cloud of smoke went up from the incense.


And he brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord: and, behold, at the door of the temple of the Lord between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men having their backs towards the temple of the Lord and their faces to the east: and they adored towards the rising of the sun.


Her princes are in the midst of her as roaring lions: her judges are evening wolves, they left nothing for the morning.


Her prophets are senseless men without faith: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have acted unjustly against the law.
