The Lord God will help me; therefore I have not been humiliated; therefore I have set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.


‘Now, get ready. Stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them  or I will cause you to cower before them.


They will fight against you but never prevail over you,  since I am with you to rescue you.’  This is the Lord’s declaration.


Woe is me, my mother, that you gave birth to me, a man who incites dispute and conflict in all the land. I did not lend or borrow, yet everyone curses me.


Then I will make you a fortified wall of bronze to this people. They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to save you and rescue you. This is the  Lord’s declaration.


But the Lord is with me like a violent warrior. Therefore, my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. Since they have not succeeded, they will be utterly shamed, an everlasting humiliation that will never be forgotten.


“This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I am about to repel the weapons of war in your hands,  those you are using to fight the king of Babylon and the Chaldeans  who are besieging you outside the wall, and I will bring them into the centre of this city.


But Ahikam  son of Shaphan supported Jeremiah, so he was not handed over to the people to be put to death.


As for you, you will not escape  from him but are certain to be captured and handed over to him. You will meet the king of Babylon eye to eye and speak face to face;  , you will go to Babylon.


‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: This is what you will say to Judah’s king,  who is sending you to enquire of me: “Watch: Pharaoh’s army, which has come out to help you,  is going to return to its own land of Egypt.


But if you do not surrender to the officials of the king of Babylon, then this city will be handed over to the Chaldeans.  They will burn it, and you yourself will not escape from them.” ’


‘This is what the Lord says: “Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine, and plague,  but whoever surrenders to the Chaldeans will live.  He will retain his life like the spoils of war and will live.”


Now therefore, know for certain that by the sword, famine, and plague you will die in the place where you desired to go to stay for a while.’


I have appointed you to be an assayer among my people – a refiner   – so that you may know and assay their way of life.


and he brought Simon to Jesus. When Jesus saw him, he said, ‘You are Simon, son of John.   You will be called Cephas’   (which is translated ‘Peter’  ).


‘The one who conquers I will make a pillar   in the temple of my God, and he will never go out again. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God #– #the new Jerusalem,   which comes down out of heaven from my God #– #and my new name.
