9 Therefore Jacob’s iniquity  will be atoned for in this way, and the result of the removal of his sin will be this: when he makes all the altar stones like crushed bits of chalk, no Asherah poles or incense altars will remain standing.

They brought out the pillar of the temple of Baal and burned it,


He broke the sacred pillars into pieces,  cut down the Asherah poles,  then filled their places with human bones.


He burned the Lord’s temple,  the king’s palace,  and all the houses of Jerusalem; he burned down  all the great houses.


He also removed the high places and the shrines  from all the cities of Judah,  and the kingdom experienced peace under him.


Then in his presence the altars of the Baals were torn down, and he chopped down the shrines  that were above them. He shattered the Asherah poles, the carved images, and the cast images, crushed them to dust, and scattered  them over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.


Then the Chaldeans burned God’s temple.  They tore down Jerusalem’s wall, burned all its palaces, and destroyed all its valuable articles.


Instead, you must tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, and chop down their Asherah poles.


Lashes and wounds purge away evil, and beatings cleanse the innermost parts.


Indeed, they  will be ashamed of the sacred trees you desired, and you will be embarrassed because of the garden shrines you have chosen.


They will not look to the altars  they made with their hands or to the Asherahs and shrines  , they made with their fingers.


Then you will defile your silver-plated idols and your gold-plated images. You will throw them away like menstrual cloths, and call them filth.


when the Lord has washed away the filth  of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodguilt  from the heart of Jerusalem by a spirit of judgement  and a spirit of burning.


‘Speak tenderly to   Jerusalem, and announce to her that her time of hard service is over, her iniquity  has been pardoned, and she has received from the  Lord’s hand double for all her sins.’


Look, I have refined you,  but not as silver; I have tested  you in the furnace of affliction.


‘When they arrive there, they will remove all its  abhorrent acts  and detestable practices from it.


I will purge you of those who rebel and transgress against me.  I will bring them out of the land where they live as foreign residents, but they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord.


Your altars will be desolated and your shrines  smashed. I will throw down your slain in front of your idols.


Some of those who have insight will fall so that they may be refined,  purified, and cleansed  until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.


Ephraim, why should I  have anything more to do with idols? It is I who answer and watch over him. I am like a flourishing pine tree; your fruit comes from me.


I will destroy your high places, cut down your shrines,  and heap your lifeless bodies on the lifeless bodies of your idols;  I will reject you.


I will remove the cities of your land and tear down all your fortresses.


On that day’ #– #this is the declaration of the Lord of Armies #– #‘I will remove the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered.  I will banish the prophets  and the unclean spirit from the land.


And this will be my covenant with them   , when I take away their sins.   ,


but when we are judged  by the Lord, we are disciplined, so that we may not be condemned  with the world.


Tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, burn their Asherah poles, cut down the carved images of their gods, and wipe out their names from every  place.


for the Lord disciplines the one he loves and punishes every son he receives.   ,
