‘I will make her a swampland and a region for herons,  and I will sweep her away with the broom of destruction.’ This is the declaration of the  Lord of Armies.


Look at the land of the Chaldeans – a people who no longer exist. Assyria destined it for desert creatures. They set up their siege towers and stripped its palaces. They made it a ruin.


For you have turned the city into a pile of rocks, a fortified city into ruins; the fortress of barbarians  is no longer a city; it will never be rebuilt.


For the palace will be deserted, the busy city abandoned. The hill and the watchtower will become barren places for ever, the joy of wild donkeys, and a pasture for flocks,


Therefore, desert creatures  will live with hyenas, and ostriches will also live in her. It will never again be inhabited or lived in through all generations.
