When they heard the law, they separated all those of mixed descent  from Israel.


Moses replied, ‘We will go with our young and with our old; we will go with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds because we must hold the Lord’s festival.’


But the people thirsted there for water and grumbled against Moses. They said, ‘Why did you ever bring us up from Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst? ’


Now the son of an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father was  among the Israelites. A fight broke out in the camp between the Israelite woman’s son and an Israelite man.


The Lord of Armies says this: ‘In those days, ten men from nations of every language will grab the robe of a Jewish man tightly, urging: Let us go with you,  for we have heard that God is with you.’


The rabble  among them  had a strong craving  for other food. The Israelites wept again and said, ‘Who will feed us meat?


‘We will go on the main road,’ the Israelites replied to them, ‘and if we or our herds drink your water, we will pay its price.  There will be no problem; only let us travel through on foot.’


The Reubenites and Gadites had a very large number of livestock. When they surveyed the lands of Jazer  and Gilead, they saw that the region was a good one for livestock.


But your wives, dependents, and livestock #– #I know that you have a lot of livestock #– #will remain in the cities I have given you


There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded that Joshua did not read before the entire assembly of Israel, including the women, the dependents, and the resident foreigners who lived among them.
