5 You are not going to take possession of their land because of your righteousness or your integrity. Instead, the Lord your God will drive out these nations before you because of their wickedness, in order to fulfil the promise he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The Lord appeared to Abram and said, ‘To your offspring  , I will give this land.’ So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.


for I will give you and your offspring  for ever all the land that you see.


In the fourth generation they will return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.’  ,


He also said to him, ‘I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.’


And to you and your future offspring  , I will give the land where you are residing #– #all the land of Canaan #– #as a permanent possession,  and I will be their God.’


So it was, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham and brought Lot out of the middle of the upheaval when he demolished the cities where Lot had lived.


I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky, I will give your offspring all these lands, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed  by your offspring,


The Lord was standing there beside him,  saying, ‘I am the Lord,  the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your offspring the land on which you are lying.


Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel #– #you swore to them by yourself  and declared, “I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and will give your offspring all this land that I have promised, and they will inherit it for ever.” ’


But I acted for the sake of my name, so that it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.


‘Therefore, say to the house of Israel, “This is what the Lord God says: It is not for your sake that I will act,  house of Israel, but for my holy name,  which you profaned among the nations where you went.


It is not for your sake that I will act   #– #this is the declaration of the Lord God  #– #let this be known to you. Be ashamed and humiliated because of your ways, house of Israel!


‘Do not defile yourselves by any of these practices, for the nations I am driving out before you have defiled themselves by all these things.


The land has become defiled, so I am punishing it for its iniquity, and the land will vomit out its inhabitants.


You will show loyalty to Jacob and faithful love to Abraham, as you swore to our ancestors from days long ago.


You are the sons  of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors, saying to Abraham, And all the families of the earth will be blessed through your offspring.   ,


Regarding the gospel, they are enemies for your advantage,  but regarding election, they are loved because of the patriarchs,


For I say that Christ became a servant of the circumcised  on behalf of God’s truth,  to confirm the promises to the fathers,


See, I have set the land before you. Enter and take possession of the land  the Lord swore to give to your ancestors  Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and their future descendants.”


You must not do the same to the Lord your God, because they practise every detestable act, which the Lord hates, for their gods. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.


Everyone who does these acts is detestable to the Lord, and the Lord your God is driving out the nations before you because of these detestable acts.


‘When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not imitate the detestable customs of those nations.


so that they won’t teach you to do all the detestable acts they do for their gods, and you sin against the Lord your God.


he saved us   #– #not by works of righteousness that we had done,  but according to his mercy   #– #through the washing of regeneration  and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
