Asa did what was right in the Lord’s sight, as his ancestor David had done.


He banished the male cult prostitutes  from the land and removed all of the idols that his ancestors had made.


The high places were not taken away,  but Asa was wholeheartedly devoted to the Lord his entire life.


Abijah rested with his ancestors and was buried in the city of David. His son Asa became king in his place.  During his reign the land experienced peace for ten years.


He removed the pagan altars and the high places. He shattered their sacred pillars and chopped down their Asherah poles.


King Asa  also removed Maacah, his grandmother,  , from being queen mother because she had made an obscene image of Asherah. Asa chopped down her obscene image, then crushed it and burned it in the Kidron Valley.


He took great pride in the Lord’s ways, and he again  removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.


He walked in the ways of Asa his father; he did not turn away from it but did what was right in the Lord’s sight.


Then a letter came to Jehoram from the prophet Elijah, saying: This is what the Lord, the God of your ancestor David says: ‘Because you have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat  or in the ways of King Asa of Judah


When all this was completed, all Israel who had attended went out to the cities of Judah and broke up the sacred pillars, chopped down the Asherah poles, and tore down the high places and altars  throughout Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and Manasseh, to the last one.  Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own possession.


Hezekiah did this throughout all Judah. He did what was good and upright and true before the Lord his God.


He tore down the altars, and he smashed the Asherah poles and the carved images to powder. He chopped down all the shrines throughout the land of Israel and returned to Jerusalem.


Do not bow in worship to their gods, and do not serve them. Do not imitate their practices. Instead, demolish them  and smash their sacred pillars to pieces.


in holiness and righteousness in his presence all our days.


Tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, burn their Asherah poles, cut down the carved images of their gods, and wipe out their names from every  place.
