29 ‘Someone is pursuing you and intends to take your life. My lord’s life is tucked safely in the place  where the Lord your God protects the living, but he is flinging away your enemies’ lives like stones from a sling.

After these events, the word of the Lord came  to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid,  Abram. I am your shield; your reward will be very great.


They brought Ish-bosheth’s head to David at Hebron and said to the king, ‘Here’s the head of Ish-bosheth son of Saul, your enemy who intended to take your life. Today the Lord has granted vengeance to my lord the king against Saul and his offspring.’


It blasts at him without mercy, while he flees desperately from its force.


For this is what the Lord says: Look, I am flinging away the land’s residents at this time and bringing them such distress that they will feel it.


‘They will be mine,’ says the Lord of Armies,  ‘my own possession on the day I am preparing. I will have compassion on them as a man has compassion on his son who serves him.


In a little while the world will no longer see me,   but you will see me.   Because I live, you will live   too.


May they all be one,   as you, Father, are in me and I am in you.   May they also be   in us, so that the world may believe you sent me.


I am in them and you are in me,   so that they may be made completely one, that the world may know you have sent me and have loved   them as you have loved me.


How happy you are, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the  Lord? He is the shield that protects you, the sword you boast in. Your enemies will cringe before you, and you will tread on their backs.  ,


You are being guarded by God’s power  through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.


He guards the steps  of his faithful ones, but the wicked perish in darkness, for a person does not prevail by his own strength.
