³ H3124But JonahH6965rose up[H8799] H1272to flee[H8800] H8659unto TarshishH6440from the presenceH3068of the LORDH3381, and went down[H8799] H3305to JoppaH4672; and he found[H8799] H591a shipH935going[H8802] H8659to TarshishH5414: so he paid[H8799] H7939the fareH3381thereof, and went down[H8799] H935into it, to go[H8800] H8659with them unto TarshishH6440from the presenceH3068of the LORD.

⁴ H3068But the LORDH2904sent out[H8689] H1419a greatH7307windH3220into the seaH1419, and there was a mightyH5591tempestH3220in the seaH591, so that the shipH2803was like[H8765] H7665to be broken[H8736] .

⁵ H4419Then the marinersH3372were afraid[H8799] H2199, and cried[H8799] H376every manH430unto his godH2904, and cast forth[H8686] H3627the waresH591that were in the shipH3220into the seaH7043, to lighten[H8687] H3124it of them. But JonahH3381was gone down[H8804] H3411into the sidesH5600of the shipH7901; and he lay[H8799] H7290, and was fast asleep[H8735] .

⁶ H7227So the shipmasterH2259 H7126came[H8799] H559to him, and said[H8799] H7290unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper[H8737] H6965? arise[H8798] H7121, call[H8798] H430upon thy GodH430, if so be that GodH6245will think[H8691] H6upon us, that we perish[H8799]  not.

⁷ H559And they said[H8799] H376every oneH7453to his fellowH3212, Come[H8798] H5307, and let us cast[H8686] H1486lotsH3045, that we may know[H8799] H7945for whose causeH7451this evilH5307is upon us. So they cast[H8686] H1486lotsH1486, and the lotH5307fell[H8799] H3124upon Jonah.

⁸ H559Then said[H8799] H5046they unto him, Tell[H8685] H7451us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evilH4399is upon us; What is thine occupationH370? and whenceH935comest[H8799] H776thou? what is thy countryH5971? and of what people art thou?

⁹ H559And he said[H8799] H5680unto them, I am an HebrewH3373; and I fearH3068the LORDH430, the GodH8064of heavenH6213, which hath made[H8804] H3220the seaH3004and the dry land .

¹⁰ H582Then were the menH1419exceedinglyH3374 H3372afraid[H8799] H559, and said[H8799] H6213unto him, Why hast thou done[H8804] H582this? For the menH3045knew[H8804] H1272that he fled[H8802] H6440from the presenceH3068of the LORDH5046, because he had told[H8689]  them.

¹¹ H559Then said[H8799] H6213they unto him, What shall we do[H8799] H3220unto thee, that the seaH8367may be calm[H8799] H3220unto us? for the seaH1980wrought[H8802] H5590, and was tempestuous[H8802] .

¹² H559And he said[H8799] H5375unto them, Take me up[H8798] H2904, and cast me forth[H8685] H3220into the seaH3220; so shall the seaH8367be calm[H8799] H3045unto you: for I know[H8802] H7945that for my sakeH1419this greatH5591tempest is upon you.

¹³ H582Nevertheless the menH2864rowed hard[H8799] H7725to bring[H8687] H3004it to the landH3201; but they could[H8804] H3220not: for the seaH1980wrought[H8802] H5590, and was tempestuous[H8802]  against them.

¹⁴ H7121Wherefore they cried[H8799] H3068unto the LORDH559, and said[H8799] H577, We beseech theeH3068, O LORDH6, we beseech thee, let us not perish[H8799] H376for this man'sH5315lifeH5414, and lay[H8799] H5355not upon us innocent[H8675] H5355 H1818bloodH3068: for thou, O LORDH6213, hast done[H8804] H2654as it pleased[H8804]  thee.

¹⁵ H5375So they took up[H8799] H3124JonahH2904, and cast him forth[H8686] H3220into the seaH3220: and the seaH5975ceased[H8799] H2197from her raging.

¹⁶ H582Then the menH3372feared[H8799] H3068the LORDH1419exceedinglyH3374 H2076, and offered[H8799] H2077a sacrificeH3068unto the LORDH5087, and made[H8799] H5088vows.

¹⁷ H3068Now the LORDH4487had prepared[H8762] H1419a greatH1709fishH1104to swallow up[H8800] H3124JonahH3124. And JonahH4578was in the bellyH1709of the fishH7969threeH3117daysH7969and threeH3915nights.
