³ H4932And his secondH3609, ChileabH26, of AbigailH802the wifeH5037of NabalH3761the CarmeliteH7992; and the thirdH53, AbsalomH1121the sonH4601of MaacahH1323the daughterH8526of TalmaiH4428kingH1650of Geshur;

⁴ H7243And the fourthH138, AdonijahH1121the sonH2294of HaggithH2549; and the fifthH8203, ShephatiahH1121the sonH37of Abital;

⁵ H8345And the sixthH3507, IthreamH5698, by EglahH1732David'sH802wifeH3205. These were born[H8795] H1732to DavidH2275in Hebron.

⁶ H4421And it came to pass, while there was warH1004between the houseH7586of SaulH1004and the houseH1732of DavidH74, that AbnerH2388made himself strong[H8693] H1004for the houseH7586of Saul.

⁷ H7586And SaulH6370had a concubineH8034, whose nameH7532was RizpahH1323, the daughterH345of AiahH559: and Ishbosheth said[H8799] H74to AbnerH935, Wherefore hast thou gone in[H8804] H1unto my father'sH6370concubine?

⁸ H74Then was AbnerH3966veryH2734wroth[H8799] H1697for the wordsH378of IshboshethH559, and said[H8799] H3611, Am I a dog'sH7218headH3063, which against JudahH6213do shew[H8799] H2617kindnessH3117this dayH1004unto the houseH7586of SaulH1thy fatherH251, to his brethrenH4828, and to his friendsH4672, and have not delivered[H8689] H3027thee into the handH1732of DavidH6485, that thou chargest[H8799] H3117me to dayH5771with a faultH802concerning this woman?

⁹ H6213So do[H8799] H430GodH74to AbnerH3254, and more also[H8686] H3068, except, as the LORDH7650hath sworn[H8738] H1732to DavidH6213, even so I do[H8799]  to him;

¹⁰ H5674To translate[H8687] H4467the kingdomH1004from the houseH7586of SaulH6965, and to set up[H8687] H3678the throneH1732of DavidH3478over IsraelH3063and over JudahH1835, from DanH884even to Beersheba.

¹¹ H3201And he could[H8804] H7725not answer[H8687] H74AbnerH1697a wordH3372again, because he feared[H8800]  him.

¹² H74And AbnerH7971sent[H8799] H4397messengersH1732to DavidH559on his behalf, saying[H8800] H776, Whose is the landH559? saying[H8800] H3772also, Make[H8798] H1285thy leagueH3027with me, and, behold, my handH5437shall be with thee, to bring about[H8687] H3478all Israel unto thee.

¹³ H559And he said[H8799] H2896, WellH3772; I will make[H8799] H1285a leagueH259with thee: but oneH1697thingH7592I require[H8802] H559of thee, that is[H8800] H7200, Thou shalt not see[H8799] H6440my faceH6440, except thou firstH935bring[H8687] H4324MichalH7586Saul'sH1323daughterH935, when thou comest[H8800] H7200to see[H8800] H6440my face.

¹⁴ H1732And DavidH7971sent[H8799] H4397messengersH378to IshboshethH7586Saul'sH1121sonH559, saying[H8800] H5414, Deliver[H8798] H802me my wifeH4324MichalH781, which I espoused[H8765] H3967to me for an hundredH6190foreskinsH6430of the Philistines.

¹⁵ H378And IshboshethH7971sent[H8799] H3947, and took[H8799] H376her from her husbandH6409, even from PhaltielH1121the sonH3889of Laish[H8675] H3919 .

¹⁶ H376And her husbandH3212went[H8799] H1980with her along weeping[H8800] H1058 [H8800] H310behindH980her to BahurimH559. Then said[H8799] H74AbnerH3212unto him, Go[H8798] H7725, return[H8798] H7725. And he returned[H8799] .

¹⁷ H74And AbnerH1961had communication[H8804] H1697 H2205with the eldersH3478of IsraelH559, saying[H8800] H1245, Ye sought[H8764] H1732for DavidH8543in timesH8032pastH4428to be king over you:

¹⁸ H6213Now then do[H8798] H3068it : for the LORDH559hath spoken[H8804] H1732of DavidH559, saying[H8800] H3027, By the handH5650of my servantH1732DavidH3467I will save[H8687] H5971my peopleH3478IsraelH3027out of the handH6430of the PhilistinesH3027, and out of the handH341of all their enemies[H8802] .

¹⁹ H74And AbnerH1696also spake[H8762] H241in the earsH1144of BenjaminH74: and AbnerH3212went[H8799] H1696also to speak[H8763] H241in the earsH1732of DavidH2275in HebronH5869all that seemedH2896goodH3478to IsraelH5869, and that seemed goodH1004to the whole houseH1144of Benjamin.

²⁰ H74So AbnerH935came[H8799] H1732to DavidH2275to HebronH6242, and twentyH582menH1732with him. And DavidH6213made[H8799] H74AbnerH582and the menH4960that were with him a feast.

²¹ H74And AbnerH559said[H8799] H1732unto DavidH6965, I will arise[H8799] H3212and go[H8799] H6908, and will gather[H8799] H3478all IsraelH113unto my lordH4428the kingH3772, that they may make[H8799] H1285a leagueH4427with thee, and that thou mayest reign[H8804] H5315over all that thine heartH183desireth[H8762] H1732. And DavidH7971sentH74AbnerH7971away[H8762] H3212; and he went[H8799] H7965in peace.

²² H5650And, behold, the servantsH1732of DavidH3097and JoabH935came[H8802] H1416from pursuing a troopH935, and brought in[H8689] H7227a greatH7998spoilH74with them: but AbnerH1732was not with DavidH2275in HebronH7971; for he had sent him away[H8765] H3212, and he was gone[H8799] H7965in peace.

²³ H3097When JoabH6635and all the hostH935that was with him were come[H8804] H5046, they told[H8686] H3097JoabH559, saying[H8800] H74, AbnerH1121the sonH5369of NerH935came[H8804] H4428to the kingH7971, and he hath sent him away[H8762] H3212, and he is gone[H8799] H7965in peace.

²⁴ H3097Then JoabH935came[H8799] H4428to the kingH559, and said[H8799] H6213, What hast thou done[H8804] H74? behold, AbnerH935came[H8802] H7971unto thee; why is it that thou hast sent him away[H8765] H1980, and he is quite[H8800] H3212gone[H8799] ?

²⁵ H3045Thou knowest[H8804] H74AbnerH1121the sonH5369of NerH935, that he came[H8804] H6601to deceive[H8763] H3045thee, and to know[H8800] H4161thy going outH4126and thy coming in[H8675] H3996 H3045, and to know[H8800] H6213all that thou doest[H8802] .

²⁶ H3097And when JoabH3318was come out[H8799] H1732from DavidH7971, he sent[H8799] H4397messengersH310afterH74AbnerH7725, which brought him again[H8686] H953from the wellH5626of SirahH1732: but DavidH3045knew[H8804]  it not.

²⁷ H74And when AbnerH7725was returned[H8799] H2275to HebronH3097, JoabH5186took him aside[H8686] H413inH8432 H8179the gateH1696to speak[H8763] H7987with him quietlyH5221, and smote[H8686] H2570him there under the fifthH4191rib, that he died[H8799] H1818, for the bloodH6214of AsahelH251his brother.

²⁸ H310And afterwardH1732when DavidH8085heard[H8799] H559it, he said[H8799] H4467, I and my kingdomH5355are guiltlessH3068before the LORDH5704forH5769everH1818from the bloodH74of AbnerH1121the sonH5369of Ner:

²⁹ H2342Let it rest[H8799] H7218on the headH3097of JoabH1, and on all his father'sH1004houseH3772; and let there not fail[H8735] H1004from the houseH3097of JoabH2100one that hath an issue[H8802] H6879, or that is a leper[H8794] H2388, or that leaneth[H8688] H6418on a staffH5307, or that falleth[H8802] H2719on the swordH2638, or that lackethH3899bread.

³⁰ H3097So JoabH52and AbishaiH251his brotherH2026slew[H8804] H74AbnerH4191, because he had slain[H8689] H251their brotherH6214AsahelH1391at GibeonH4421in the battle.

³¹ H1732And DavidH559said[H8799] H3097to JoabH5971, and to all the peopleH7167that were with him, Rend[H8798] H899your clothesH2296, and gird[H8798] H8242you with sackclothH5594, and mourn[H8798] H6440beforeH74AbnerH4428. And kingH1732DavidH1980himself followed[H8802] H310 H4296the bier.

³² H6912And they buried[H8799] H74AbnerH2275in HebronH4428: and the kingH5375lifted up[H8799] H6963his voiceH1058, and wept[H8799] H6913at the graveH74of AbnerH5971; and all the peopleH1058wept[H8799] .

³³ H4428And the kingH6969lamented[H8787] H74over AbnerH559, and said[H8799] H4191, Died[H8799] H74AbnerH5036as a foolH4194dieth?

³⁴ H3027Thy handsH631were not bound[H8803] H7272, nor thy feetH5066put[H8717] H5178into fettersH5307: as a man falleth[H8800] H6440beforeH5766wickedH1121menH5307, so fellest[H8804] H5971thou. And all the peopleH1058wept[H8800] H3254again[H8686]  over him.

³⁵ H3605And when allH5971the peopleH935came[H8799] H1262to causeH1732DavidH1262to eat[H8687] H3899meatH5750while it was yetH3117dayH1732, DavidH7650sware[H8735] H559, saying[H8800] H6213, So do[H8799] H430GodH3254to me, and more also[H8686] H2938, if I taste[H8799] H3899breadH3972, or oughtH6440else, tillH8121the sunH935be down[H8800] .

³⁶ H5971And all the peopleH5234took notice[H8689] H3190of it, and it pleased[H8799] H5869 H4428them: as whatsoever the kingH6213did[H8804] H5869pleasedH2896 H5971all the people.

³⁷ H5971For all the peopleH3478and all IsraelH3045understood[H8799] H3117that dayH4428that it was not of the kingH4191to slay[H8687] H74AbnerH1121the sonH5369of Ner.

³⁸ H4428And the kingH559said[H8799] H5650unto his servantsH3045, Know[H8799] H8269ye not that there is a princeH1419and a great manH5307fallen[H8804] H3117this dayH3478in Israel?

³⁹ H3117And I am this dayH7390weakH4886, though anointed[H8803] H4428kingH582; and these menH1121the sonsH6870of ZeruiahH7186be too hardH3068for me: the LORDH7999shall reward[H8762] H6213the doer of evil[H8802] H7451according to his wickedness.
