² H3117And it came to pass, whileH727the arkH3427abode[H8800] H7157in KirjathjearimH3117, that the timeH7235was long[H8799] H6242; for it was twentyH8141yearsH1004: and all the houseH3478of IsraelH5091lamented[H8735] H310afterH3068the LORD.

³ H8050And SamuelH559spake[H8799] H1004unto all the houseH3478of IsraelH559, saying[H8800] H7725, If ye do return[H8802] H3068unto the LORDH3824with all your heartsH5493, then put away[H8685] H5236the strangeH430godsH6252and AshtarothH8432from amongH3559you, and prepare[H8685] H3824your heartsH3068unto the LORDH5647, and serve[H8798] H5337him only: and he will deliver[H8686] H3027you out of the handH6430of the Philistines.

⁴ H1121Then the childrenH3478of IsraelH5493did put away[H8686] H1168BaalimH6252and AshtarothH5647, and served[H8799] H3068the LORD only.

⁵ H8050And SamuelH559said[H8799] H6908, Gather[H8798] H3478all IsraelH4708to MizpehH6419, and I will pray[H8691] H3068for you unto the LORD.

⁶ H6908And they gathered together[H8735] H4709to MizpehH7579, and drew[H8799] H4325waterH8210, and poured it out[H8799] H6440beforeH3068the LORDH6684, and fasted[H8799] H3117on that dayH559, and said[H8799] H2398there, We have sinned[H8804] H3068against the LORDH8050. And SamuelH8199judged[H8799] H1121the childrenH3478of IsraelH4708in Mizpeh.

⁷ H6430And when the PhilistinesH8085heard[H8799] H1121that the childrenH3478of IsraelH6908were gathered together[H8694] H4708to MizpehH5633, the lordsH6430of the PhilistinesH5927went up[H8799] H3478against IsraelH1121. And when the childrenH3478of IsraelH8085heard[H8799] H3372it, they were afraid[H8799] H6440ofH6430the Philistines.

⁸ H1121And the childrenH3478of IsraelH559said[H8799] H8050to SamuelH2790, Cease[H8686] H2199not to cry[H8800] H3068unto the LORDH430our GodH3467for us, that he will save[H8686] H3027us out of the handH6430of the Philistines.

⁹ H8050And SamuelH3947took[H8799] H259aH2461suckingH2924lambH5927, and offered[H8686] H5930it for a burnt offeringH3632whollyH3068unto the LORDH8050: and SamuelH2199cried[H8799] H3068unto the LORDH3478for IsraelH3068; and the LORDH6030heard[H8799]  him.

¹⁰ H8050And as SamuelH5927was offering up[H8688] H5930the burnt offeringH6430, the PhilistinesH5066drew near[H8738] H4421to battleH3478against IsraelH3068: but the LORDH7481thundered[H8686] H1419with a greatH6963thunderH3117on that dayH6430upon the PhilistinesH2000, and discomfited[H8799] H5062them; and they were smitten[H8735] H6440beforeH3478Israel.

¹¹ H582And the menH3478of IsraelH3318went out[H8799] H4709of MizpehH7291, and pursued[H8799] H6430the PhilistinesH5221, and smote[H8686] H1033them, until they came under Bethcar.

¹² H8050Then SamuelH3947took[H8799] H259aH68stoneH7760, and set[H8799] H4709it between MizpehH8129and ShenH7121, and called[H8799] H8034the nameH72of it EbenezerH559, saying[H8799] H3068, Hitherto hath the LORDH5826helped[H8804]  us.

¹³ H6430So the PhilistinesH3665were subdued[H8735] H935, and they came[H8800] H3254no more[H8804] H1366into the coastH3478of IsraelH3027: and the handH3068of the LORDH6430was against the PhilistinesH3117all the daysH8050of Samuel.

¹⁴ H5892And the citiesH6430which the PhilistinesH3947had taken[H8804] H3478from IsraelH7725were restored[H8799] H3478to IsraelH6138, from EkronH1661even unto GathH1366; and the coastsH3478thereof did IsraelH5337deliver[H8689] H3027out of the handsH6430of the PhilistinesH7965. And there was peaceH3478between IsraelH567and the Amorites.

¹⁵ H8050And SamuelH8199judged[H8799] H3478IsraelH3117all the daysH2416of his life.

¹⁶ H1980And he went[H8804] H1767fromH8141yearH8141to yearH5437in circuit[H8804] H1008to BethelH1537, and GilgalH4709, and MizpehH8199, and judged[H8804] H3478IsraelH4725in all those places.

¹⁷ H8666And his returnH7414was to RamahH1004; for there was his houseH8199; and there he judged[H8804] H3478IsraelH1129; and there he built[H8799] H4196an altarH3068unto the LORD.
