After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, Magi from the rising direction came to Jerusalem, saying,
Large crowds from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan followed him.
People from the whole Judean countryside and everyone in Jerusalem went out to him. They were baptized by him in the Jordan river, publicly acknowledging their sins.
“The Law and the Prophets lead up to John. Since then, the gospel of the Empire of God is proclaimed, and everyone is strongly urged to enter it.
He went into all the region around the Jordan River, preaching the baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins.
Then John said to the multitudes who went out to be baptized by him, “Y’all brood of vipers, who warned y’all to flee from the wrath to come?
John was also baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there. People were coming and being baptized,
He was a lamp that was burning and shining, and y’all were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.
