The one who speaks on their own seeks their own glory, but the one who seeks the glory of the one who sent them is true, and no unrighteousness is in that person.
For this reason y’all also pay taxes, for they are God’s servants, continually doing this very thing.
For we are not like so many who peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, we speak with sincerity in Christ, as those from God and before God.
For if I grieve y’all, then who will make me glad but the one whom I have grieved?
Therefore, since we have this deacon-work because we were shown mercy, we do not lose heart.
Therefore, since we know the fear of the Lord, we work to persuade humans. What we are is known openly to God, and I hope we are also known openly in y’all’s consciences.
From now on, we don’t view anyone from a fleshly perspective. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, but now we no longer know him that way.
For am I now seeking the favor of humans or of God? Or am I striving to please humans? For if I were still pleasing humans, I wouldn’t be a servant of Christ.
As for the respected ones—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God isn’t taken by the faces of humans—the respected ones imparted nothing to me.
You must not pervert justice. You must not show partiality. You must not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.
Rather, we speak as those who have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel—not to please humans, but God, who tests our hearts.
