He who was over the household, and he who was over the city, the elders also, and those who raised the children, sent to Jehu, saying, “We are your servants, and will do all that you ask us. We will not make any man king. You do that which is good in your eyes.”


If it responds in peace and opens to you, then it that all the people there will become forced laborers for you and serve you.


The men of Gibeon sent to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, “Don’t abandon your servants! Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill country have gathered together against us.”


Our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, ‘Y’all take supplies in y’all’s hand for the journey, and go to meet them. Y’all tell them, “We are y’all’s servants. Now make a covenant with us.”’

That day Joshua made them wood cutters and water carriers for the congregation and for the altar of YHWH to this day, in the place which he should choose.
