So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, “Your servant Ben Hadad says, ‘Please let me live.’” He said, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”


The king of Israel answered, “It is according to your saying, my lord, O king. I am yours, and all that I have.”


Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, “If y’all are on my side, and if y’all will listen to my voice, take* the heads of the men who are your* master’s sons, and y’all come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time.” Now the king’s sons, seventy of them, were with the great men of the city, who brought them up.


Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “I have offended you. Withdraw from me. That which you put on me, I will bear.” The king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.


Y’all must not listen to them. Y’all are to serve the king of Babylon and live. Why should this city become a desolation?


Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them out, that you should tell me, ‘Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries a nursing infant, to the land which you swore to their fathers?’


If anyone serves me, let them follow me. Where I am, there my deacon will also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor them.


Our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, ‘Y’all take supplies in y’all’s hand for the journey, and go to meet them. Y’all tell them, “We are y’all’s servants. Now make a covenant with us.”’


They said to Joshua, “We are your servants.” Joshua said to them, “Who are y’all and where do y’all come from?”
