YHWH appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your offspring.” So he built an altar there to YHWH, who had appeared to him.


Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to YHWH.


One who had escaped came and told Abram, the Hebrew. At that time, he lived by the oaks of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner. They were allies of Abram.


After these things the word of YHWH came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Don’t be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”


When he finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.


The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before YHWH.


Abraham traveled from there toward the land of the South, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar.


YHWH appeared to him, and said, “Don’t go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.


Jacob came to Isaac his father, to Mamre, to Kiriath Arba (which is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac lived as foreigners.


Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,


That night, God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for what you want me to give you.”


Moses answered, “But, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘YHWH has not appeared to you.’”


“Brothers and fathers,” he replied, “Y’all must listen to me: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,


By faith he dwelled in the land of promise as a stranger in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise.


Y’all must not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for in doing so, some have received angels as guests without knowing it.


When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked and saw a man stood in front of him with his sword drawn in his hand. Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our enemies?”
