Then He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction,


Who does great things beyond comprehension, wonders without number.


How precious are Your thoughts, O God! How great is the sum of them!


Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand! When I awake, I am still with You.


I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices, for your burnt offerings are continually before Me.


Deliver me from bloodguilt, O God— God of my salvation. Then my tongue will sing for joy of Your righteousness.


My mouth will recount Your justice and Your salvation all day, though I do not know the sum of them.


then his master is to bring him to God, then take him to a door or to a doorpost. His master is to pierce his ear through with an awl, and he will serve him forever.


“For what is it to Me— the multitude of your sacrifices?” says Adonai. “I am full of burnt offerings of rams and fat of fed animals. I have no delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or he-goats.


Adonai, You are my God, I will exalt You, I will praise Your Name, for You have done wonderful things, plans of old with steadfast faithfulness.


One who kills an ox is like one who kills a man; one who sacrifices a lamb is like one who breaks a dog’s neck; one who offers a grain offering is like one who offers swine’s blood; one who burns incense is like one who blesses an idol. They have chosen their own ways, so their soul delights in their abominations.


For I delight in loyalty and not sacrifice, knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.


Even if you offer me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them, nor will I look at peace offerings of your fattened animals.


If you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you wouldn’t have condemned the innocent.


Now go and learn what this means: ‘Mercy I desire, and not sacrifice.’ For I didn’t come to call the righteous, but the sinful.”


Samuel said: “Does Adonai delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of Adonai? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, to pay heed than the fat of rams.
