Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tent.

Didst thou not, O our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and give it for ever to the descendants of Abraham thy friend?


that he would maintain the right of a man with God, like that of a man with his neighbor.


And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek; tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.”


So Moses rose with his servant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God.


When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp.”


And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the door of the tent, all the people would rise up and worship, every man at his tent door.


When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the door of the tent, and the Lord would speak with Moses.


I am the Lord, that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to graven images.


And Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, one of his chosen men, said, “My lord Moses, forbid them.”


Not so with my servant Moses; he is entrusted with all my house.


With him I speak mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in dark speech; and he beholds the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”


Thus he spoke, and then he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awake him out of sleep.”


He who has the bride is the bridegroom; the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice; therefore this joy of mine is now full.


And the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, the days approach when you must die; call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may commission him.” And Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves in the tent of meeting.


And there has not arisen a prophet since in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,


The Lord spoke with you face to face at the mountain, out of the midst of the fire,


and the scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness”; and he was called the friend of God.
