To show partiality is not good— yet for a piece of bread a person may do wrong.


The dogs have a mighty appetite; they never have enough. The shepherds also have no understanding; they have all turned to their own way, to their own gain, one and all.


You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, putting to death persons who should not die and keeping alive persons who should not live, by your lies to my people, who listen to lies.


Oh, that someone among you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says the Lord of hosts, and I will not accept an offering from your hands.


I coveted no one's silver or gold or clothing.


not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, and not a lover of money.


they must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for sordid gain what it is not right to teach.


And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced against them long ago, has not been idle, and their destruction is not asleep.


Then Micah said to him, “Stay with me, and be to me a father and a priest, and I will give you ten pieces of silver a year, a set of clothes, and your living.”


So Micah installed the Levite, and the young man became his priest, and was in the house of Micah.


While they were at Micah's house, they recognized the voice of the young Levite; so they went over and asked him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? What is your business here?”


Then they said to him, “Inquire of God that we may know whether the mission we are undertaking will succeed.”
