But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.


The wicked will see and be vexed, they will gnash their teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.


When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way. In the path where I walk people have hidden a snare for me.


Look and see, there is no-one at my right hand; no-one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no-one cares for my life.


The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.


Endless ruin has overtaken my enemies, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished.


There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.


The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue righteousness.


The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,


‘Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.


‘I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me –


My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.


Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: ‘The Lord knows those who are his,’ and, ‘Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.’


But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish.


He will guard the feet of his faithful servants, but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness. ‘It is not by strength that one prevails;
