Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the poll-tax to Caesar or not?’


Show me the coin used for paying the tax.’ They brought him a denarius,


‘Caesar’s,’ they replied. Then he said to them, ‘So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.’


Jesus replied, ‘Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness.’ Then John consented.


Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?’


Now the Israelites had been saying, ‘Do you see how this man keeps coming out? He comes out to defy Israel. The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his family from taxes in Israel.’
